I note I can redeem my VS points for VA flights, particularly SYD-AUH.

Has anyone done this? I'm trying to sort options for BNE-MLE in Jan 2015 but because it's more than 11 months out, I can't get a quote for taxes etc. I also don't know if all the VA/EY combos are included or just VA metal.

Another unknown (for me) if I book using VS points, will that be a VS code or VA and will I be entitled to my VA status entitlements if I credit to VA or if I take business, will I earn any tier miles with VS (I'm assuming not) if I credit to VS?

By doing this I can use both my VS points and VA points and also buy more VS points (missed the bonus buy earlier this month ) should I need them. Seems to be an all round winner.

If you're travelling on an award ticket, you won't earn any points or additional status credits, so there will be none to credit.

Thank you for your confirmation. I suspected such but was unsure about VS. Now my biggest concern is whether I can seat select. Once again, I'm assuming probably not. Although I'm VA plat, I'm a VS nobody. I doubt VS will allow me to seat select (even if they can do it) and I doubt VA would have access to do it for me. I'm assuming all other VA privileges will be extended (priority everything, lounge access etc).

It would seem that adding my VFF loyalty membership to the booking would be preferable but I'm also not sure if I can do that when booking with VS. Maybe they can only apply the VS loyalty membership.

Perhaps you could try getting a VA booking no. from VS when you book, then contacting the plat call centre to select seating? Those guys are pretty happy to assist.

Yes, I'll try (is that the way it normally works.....a VS booking number and a VA booking number?) but I have asked the VA GCC and was told their system won't allow them to do it. Perhaps if I have the VA booking number it may do.

To be honest, as we will be flying with a 13YO, I believe we cannot book an exit row and the remaining centre block of seats with the "extra leg room" all have bassinets. If those bassinets are needed, we'd be bumped from those seats anyway and the rest of the seats (except those without recline) look about the same, so in the big scheme of things, seat select is possibly not that important as long as we don't get the non-reclines. I'm more interested in having my VFF FFer number and status just on the offhand chance of an OpUp  (although 3 on the PNR would make that unlikely).
