So VA are new code share partner of SQ aren't they? Or some other incestuous relationship - so I would have thought interline VA dom with SQ intl would not be that difficult - boy was I wrong.

I had 2 x SQ J Savers MEL-BCN booked in July 2012 for dep June 2013. Then SQ started releasing Suite Savers so I jumped in and grabbed 2 but for SYD dep - no biggie I thought - VA MEL-SYD then transfer.

I checked with SQ at MEL in lounge earlier this year - Rita SQ's senior girl in MEL assured me not a problem I called VA Plat number in Sydney and operator assured me would not be a problem.

So Cruiserette and myself front up to VA check-in in MEL on June 20 this year and spend 45mins whilst 4 VA reps attempt to achieve what both SQ and VA assured me was a mere formality

Between them the 4 VA reps in MEL could not achieve this - we had to collect baggage in SYD - and a mountain of it at that - and transfer to Intl and check-in again - SQ rep at check-in in SYD states OMG they are hopeless - they do this all the time.

VA - what's the deal? I thought this procedure would have been and should have been somewhat simple and straight forward - where did I go wrong please?

Apologies for late posting but guess better late than never if it assists other AFF members.

Sabre broke the ability to interline on separate PNRs, even if its VA to VA

You are kidding me? Jeez even MU can interline 2 separate PNRs MEL-PVG and PVG-PEK - and you are telling me in the year 2013 VA cannot achieve this? Well I never.
