Was trying to find J rewards booking to LHR in the next 1-2 month so have started watching seats.aero - particualrly EY as they seem to release good amount of availability to AUH then onwards to various EU cities.

I was able to find avaibility when searching individual legs on the website, say this MEL-AUH-LHR itienrary

But when I was trying to search for a connecting itinerary only Economy rewards are available.

Is this new? I have always been able to search up individual leg's availability and then book a connecting itienrary. I haven't found the date I wanted yet but if I do would I be able to call up VFF and have them piece together a booking using both leg's individual business rewards opening? This is quite frustrating as it's much easier to piece together a EU trip knowing where the inividual avaiabilities are then book them as one ticker.

This is a married segment issue. MEL-AUH has one set of availability, AUH-LHR has a different set of availability and MEL-LHR has yet another. You've found availability in the first 2 buckets but the 3rd bucket is exhausted.

If this has been the case for you every single time, consider yourself lucky. If VA customer service can somehow piece it together for you, even better!

Good luck :)

Thanks. Wasn't aware this system exists for even rewards booking - it won't be the end of the world if I have to book them separately or do a stop-over.

Yup, even award bookings have fare buckets (with a lot less in each bucket compared to cash fare buckets). It's a huge problem many people face so have to work around it (with usually more miles to be spent this way).
