I thought Virgin might be flexible with this. I have 900 credits, enough to keep Platinum after my review date on December 29. But I only have 5 eligible sectors and the rules say you have to have 8 sectors. Even with a pre-booked flight for next week, I'm 2 sectors shorts, so I have to waste a lot of time to do a pointless return flight from Melbourne to somewhere this week. I'd just pay for the tickets and be done with it, but no, that doesn't work.

I rang the Plat help centre and got the "those are the rules" message. "Thankyou, goodbye". The irony is I only have 80 status credits with Qantas and they just sent me a comp Gold requal membership for next year. I only took two Y domestic QA flights all year! But Virgin.... no love there.

Just take the long way to where ever you're going, MEL-SYD-ADL-SYD..... probably about $200 extra and your Plat again.

If you think DJ WP is worth it to you then do the trip - if not then don't.

Noteing the Portland is a fair way from MEL, is there any way you can piggy-back two sectors with your booked trip?

Yep, I've written to VA Plat for a last shot, but yes it will MEL-SYD for lunch next weekend I think. Funny about the Qantas thing though. I fully expected to drop to silver.

I have retained Gold with a similar amount of SCs, but always had the required min sectors.

I actually think their stance is fair enough. Obviously your flying was not with VA or you would have the necessary segments.

People have been complaining/criticising that DJ have been giving their status away too easily.

It is good to see that they are finally sticking to their own rules.

Seems that no matter which way they go then some people are not happy.

Agreed; Rules are Rules, we all know about them before we go about the task at hand. I can't see what the big fuss is over meeting the requirements set... Make one exception, and what is stopping the next person from getting the same treatment?

I wouldn't necessarily count yourself out, as they may still extend it when they send you into review limbo land. Just the call centre is going to necessarily have much influence on that review process. So, it may get extended, but to be sure, you'll need to do the flying.

When you are consistently Platinum each year and exceed the status credit requirement every time and put $75K of annual company travel through Virgin, you might like some flexibility when you're that close on one occasion. I'm not saying let one person through let everyone through. I'm just saying there should be some flexibility like Qantas.

as I said previously, they did show flexibility and got howled down by all and sundry for being too generous. I sympathise with your situation but .....

That generosity occurred, for the most part, as part of the review process. I can't find much in the way of people having much success prior to the review process kicking off. If the OPs review date is 29 Dec, then I'm not surprised at the result from the call centre.

Vote with ya feet champ.......

I think your a little misguided there, QF also strictly enforce their segment rule, which of course has a much lower bar of four flights, but still catches folk of guard.
