VA WP guesting UA pax into LAX *A lounge

Can a VA WP guest a non status Y fare UA pax into *A lounge at LAX. Separate flights VA /UA but flying on same day?.

Rules say 1 guest but I'm not sure who is an eligible guest.

I was VA WP flying J from LAX-SYD on VA2 in October. Asked if I could guest a friend in on a different flight and was denied - had to be the same flight.

I took my friend into the Korean Airlines lounge (Priority Pass) and left him there so he still got lounge access. He was happy.
