To indulge in his passion for aviation, Mr Marchant plans on using some of his Points to touchdown on New Zealand’s famous Queenstown runway, as the very technical landing strip has always fascinated the former flight instructor.

“The Queenstown approach by aircraft has always fascinated me and is something I’ve never done before. I still have that passion for aviation so that is something I’d love to be able to do with the Points,” said Mr Marchant.

I do hope he is a patient man hoping to fly Virgin to ANYWHERE NZ!

I think that would likely stifle demand for a while. I can see why JQ/QF scaled back and VA's not bothering (for now). Another question is whether the long haul carriers will return to AKL (including two of the US3: UA and AA), although I suspect the later won't be returning, and the former...
