We live in SQ land now, a shadow is not a common thing, like I understand it is in QF land for WP. However flying SIN-LHR a few ago in Y in a 3-3-3 layout 777, they blocked the centre seat (F) next to my partner (in G) and another PPS (in D) as a shadow. Nice of them to do that.

Of course it vanished. Mr. D seat had family in ABC and moved the spare seat to his family, seating a 6-7 year boy old next to my partner who proceeded to kick, hit and annoy him for the whole flight (including stuffing tomatoes between the seats). Mr D. couldn't care less ... but I guess got brownie points with his wife for leaving her with an empty seat beside her.

More and more these days I see the attitude "it's all about me" and "#*(* everyone else".

You've got to absolutely make the parents deal with that bratty child. I would've absolutely lost it at the parents to be honest but hey, I'm not too fussed about awkward flying situations for like 15 hours haha.

LOL. Not quite the same but I vaguely recall on an SQ A380 SYD-SIN upper deck economy where I was in G seat, elderly lady in F seat, vacant E seat and what appeared to be unrelated child in D seat. You would think the logical thing for the elderly lady would have been to sit in the E seat so the 2 adults can share a vacant seat between them? Nope. Sat next to me knitting the entire flight while the child enjoyed a vacant seat.

I am probably being too selfish.

Its a relatively easy one but requires a cooperative IFS. Tell IFS of the problem and would they mind moving child back to the seat stated on the boarding pass.

The shadow was probably still in place in the system but that doesn't stop a pax moving either themselves or their devil spawn into a 'vacant' seat aka shadow.

A shadow is only effective if the cabin crew enforce it. I would have warned the kid first then 'accidentally' tipped water on him if he continued being a brat.

Careful - only just read a story about a guy being refused entry to Brazil for tipping water on a crying baby on his flight. A doubly-pleasing story, by the way: a) who hasn't secretly thought about doing something like that? and b) a man who was enough of a jerk to actually do something like that getting his just deserts. Sorry to go OT.
