What do you guys think VARA will replace the a320/737-700 fleet with? I always thought the a220-100 would make sense to replace the fokker-100s and then the a220-300s to replace a320s/737-700s, but clearly that is unlikely to occur with the E-190 order

VARA don't have 737-700s. They are all operated by VA mainline.

700s still have another 10 years to run.

In the longer run you would assume MAX 7.

700s on the used market will dry up shortly.

I'd be guessing they'll be ordering more E190-E2s to replace the remaining A320s when the first 2x A320s leave the VARA fleet later this year.

They have (had?) three Tiger aircraft which are old old, not sure what they are now but in the day they had been VH-VNB/J/P. The rest seemed to be a bit newer, ie 09 build onwards.

Still beats the Network fleet which is even older and uglier.

Those three date back to 2007, so they're not significantly older. But they have the older style overhead lockers and panels so they definitely feel old.

Maybe those provided by Alliance might be cheaper for them to run overall.
Denied by the ACCC.
Plus first 2 E190-E2s for VARA (currently) scheduled for delivery in Q4 2025.

VH-VKQ has left the fleet. Currently flying PER-CNS using the rego as its callsign.

Guessing VNR will be the other one to go given they're from the same lessor.

Looks like they resigned 3 year lease terms after the collapse.

VNR would probably end service late next month then.

I assume VNB/J/P got the second heavy check done during the pandemic, fail to see why would renew with a second heavy check on the horizon, unless they negotiated a scrapping instead which would indicate they could probably go for a few more years.

so what planes are they using to replace them? The E-190e2's haven't entered yet and no more MAX's

Reported elsewhere that Airnorth will be wet-leasing their E190s to VARA for FIFO jobs until the first two E190-E2s are delivered to PER later in the year.

The revenue services operated by the two A320s will either return to mainline or will probably be axed for the NS25 season.

Airnorth have already started operating for VARA. At least one line of flying.

Also a few more FIFO services on the 737-800 thrown in there too.

Are AirNorth using Alliance crews and aircraft?

So VARA operated by Alliance for Air North?
No. Airnorth dry-leases their E190s from Alliance complete with Airnorth livery.
Similar to Ansett leasing 747s repainted into Ansett livery from Singapore Airlines.

Alliance crews trained up the Airnorth crews initially, and since Airnorth crews got qualified it's entirely crewed by Airnorth.
