A few month ago I used to fly Sydney - Abu Dhabi with VAustralia in PE. Enjoyed very much. Tryied to book again but all showing flight operating only by Etihad.

When are you trying to book, there was another thread indicating an absence of the route of a month.

I believe the 777s are having refits/heavy maintenance in Singapore for a couple of months, with Etihad covering VA's SYD-AUH services in the meantime. But I can't for the life of me find the relevant thread.

Just curiours why there isn't any 'uproar' about the mx being done off-shore!

Because no one gives a $$$$, besides the qantas engineers union and they've signed up for another 3 years now.

Sent from my iPhone using Aust Freq Fly app so please excuse the lack of links.

Its a bit different having things done offshore while you are waiting for local facilities and staff to come online versus shutting down local facilities including a specialist RB211 workshop that was the only one in the region so it can be done offshore! I believe they already employ more local engineers than the other mob despite the heavy maintenance facility being a WIP.
