Velocity alert tools

Hi I am a new to the Velocity program and trying to determine if it is worthwhile joining one of those flight alert websites for the flights I need. My gf has just managed to get a spot in the Berlin Marathon and needs to get into Berlin by the 27th Sep.

Need to find a J class flight for her via Velocity from MEL-BER or happy to fly into Hamburg a day earlier. I was looking at the free version of seats.aero and it seems to only show MEL to LHR or AMS only. We might need to lock in an economy award now to have something to fall back on and then use a service to provide an alert if J class comes up. Or is it unlikely that J from MEL to Germany (ideally Berlin) would come up at this point of the award cycle?

September is always tough for awards, being a period for Australian school holidays, so it may pay to subscribe to more than one.

This year the September holiday start dates vary between 14th (QLD), 21st (Vic, NT, WA) & 28th (Tas, SA, NSW) so you are looking right in the guts of it all.

If it were me, I'd either subscribe or bite the bullet and pay the high season fare.

Thanks for pointing that out as I was unaware of this. In that case I should definitely book the economy seats getting into Hamburg the day before and cross my fingers that one J flight comes up last minute that she can use. Had a look and there seems to be J flights from DOH to different locations in Germany but it is only a 6.5hr flight so she would find it more useful being on the MEL-DOH leg in J

The only VA partner where I think last minute business class availability seems to be "a thing" is I think, United...although with Etihad now limiting partners to booking business class 30 days out...perhaps this a new opportunity...haven't really checked. For QR and SQ...you will probably be out of luck.

Thanks for all the advice. I won't bother signing up to the flight alert tools and have booked the economy flight just so we can get there. Will keep an eye out for one J ticket being released but not holding my breath.
