We’re excited to announce Velocity Frequent Flyer’s new partnership with Starwood Preferred Guest®, the leading loyalty program of global luxury hotel group Starwood Hotels and Resorts.

Velocity is the only Australian loyalty program to partner with Starwood Hotels and Resorts which offers 1200 properties in nearly 100 countries.

From today, Velocity members can transfer Starpoints into Velocity Frequent Flyer Points when staying at any of the 1,200 hotels located in nearly 100 countries under the Starwood brand including St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, W, Westin, Le Méridien, Sheraton, Four Points by Sheraton, Aloft and Element.

About the new partnership:

· Starpoints can now be transferred into Velocity Frequent Flyer Points
· 1 Starpoint = 1 Velocity Point
· When members transfer 20,000 Starpoints or more in a single transaction, they receive 5,000 bonus Points.

Special launch offers:

From now until 31 May 2014, Velocity members will be able to enjoy 15% discount at participating restaurants and bars in Starwood properties in Australia

Further, Starpoint members who register and book by 31 March will receive a 2,000 Starpoints bonus. Stay to be completed by 31 May 2014. Valid for 3 months at Starwood hotels in Asia Pacific

Four Points by Sheraton will be offering beer through the signature Best Brews™ beer program at various Virgin Australia lounges on select dates during February and March 2014.

Nice deal, assume you can't transfer Velocity points back to Starwood then, for an award hotel booking through them?

Good to see this benefit. Are there any plans for SPG elite membership to be added as a benefit for Gold/Platinum frequent flyers? Similar to the IHG / Hilton option, would be good for SPG Gold / Platinum to be an option.

What they need is a permanent hotel benefit instead of the 'once-off' benefits currently offered.

Something like a permanent 'gold' SPG benefit for Platinum flyers would be something to really differently VA Gold and Plat levels.

So do you think VA should offer lifetime VA status to SPG elites?
Basically it is not going to happen.
However with SPG you can get lifetime status. But you need to stay in their properties-as it should be.

I would not be surprised if something like the Delta Crossover comes into play with similar benefits!

Not lifetime membership, but an ongoing membership whilst you are a VA Platinum. I.e. if you renew VA Plat you get another year of SPG Gold.

So we could now buy 25,000 velocity points a year for USD700. I am just not sure that I value velocity points at that level however.

That would be pretty good - would be something to differential VA Gold/plat from QF Gold/Plat as well.

Its a nice feature of united mileage plus that you get marriot gold whilst you are united gold. Made me stay in a marriot for a change to get the free club etc

Nice new partner. Hardly ever stayed at SPG brands in the past, except FP Perth. Maybe this will change now...

And agree with other posters before, a 'status match' benefit for VA WPs to SPG Platinum or Gold would be awesome.

I think the ability to purchase points comes in very handy when you are short of what you need.

It will be interesting to see how long they take to transfer, not that I will try as I feel AA is a better course given where 25000 AA miles can take you.

IME, the purchase and transfer of points is relatively quick and is generally complete within 48 midweek hours. That's both the purchase and transfer (to AA in my cases).

I have transferred points to both AA and SQ.The SQ transfers have happened almost immediately.A little variable on AA transfers but always a transfer will occur on Friday night Aussie time if not before.

So if I transfer 20k out of Membership Rewards into my SPG account, I can then transfer 20k into Velocity and get the 5k bonus right?
