Velocity changes: Changes to status credits

The sector discussion is now nearing 2 days old. We know our VA Auth. Reps read these posts frequently and no clarification yet forthcoming.

I'm wondering if perhaps it's under discussion with VA as well!

Does VA actually have any flight numbers that continue on to a second destination?

From what I've seen they are always different, but I could be wrong...

It seems DJ only looks at the first and last points on the TICKET to calc SC. The way around that is to buy tickets per flight sector. Even better still look at the mileage bands in each SC earn zone and work out how to manage your various sectors / flights to just get over the min requirement to gain the most SCs per GCR mile in that sector.

Ok doing this for one or 2 flights per year is a waste but if you fly a lot between points A and B that need multiple flights then spending a bit of time on research may prove beneficial and reduce your $/SC cost.

The term "direct flight" seems to change depending who you talk to.

"Non-stop" definitely means from one point to another, without a stop in the middle.

"Direct" sometimes means this, but in many cases it means from one point to another, but effectively with a refueling & dropoff/pickup stop. Generally is the same flight number for both flights, and would be considered a single flight for frequent flyer programs.

To me this isn't really direct, but is still commonly referred to as direct in the industry.

Connecting flights are where it is a different flight number, but still a stop of less than 24 hours. In my book these would be treated as separate sectors, segments, flights, or whatever you want to call them, and therefore should earn points and status credits based on separate flights. After all, you have flown the miles and separate flights, probably in many cases because you didn't have the choice of a Non-Stop flight.

Although a lot more hassle to book, how much more would it cost to book each sector as a different trip? Different booking reference numbers would then accrue points & status for each individual flight?

This probably won't affect me too much, but I'd much rather see Status Credits earnt per sector (where I mean one sector = one take-off and landing with a single flight number, not including any technical stops where the flight number stays the same).

Here is what I found:

Hbr/Mel A$168
Mel/Syd A$199. Total A$368 for 40 SCs or A$9.20 / SC

Hbr/Syd A$224 for 20 SCs or A$11.20 / SC

I note that Mel/Syd can be bought for A$88 (Saver), earning 10 SCs for A$8.80/SC.

Can anybody from VELOCITY REWARDS help me!!!!!!!!

With the recent changes with SC my partner will loose his silver status earlier and I will need more points as my cut of date is now 12 Jun instead of end of september. We are still waiting for MH miles since our early April trip. I have an upcoming trip in premium economy on V and VX and my partner on DL and VX. We have been in contact with velocity rewards forwarded ticket copies and boarding passesbut the points are still not in, panicking.
Please see below and please HELP!!!!!!!!! We love DJ BTW..

Please could you try to speed up the missing miles...Thanking you a desperate flyer:cool:

So they've taken the phrase "direct flight" and interpreted it to mean the opposite. Baffling.

I just checked a return flight (normal return, not multi-city) from BNE to CNS. It was made up of 6 separate flights all with different flight numbers.

The point of interest is that the credit card fee was only $9 - that of 2 sectors.

So, to me it (unfortunately! :() follows that the SC would be counted as the two sectors also. That is, 30 SC on discount economy instead of the 60 that many AFFers originally thought might be possible under this new scheme.

Now I am confused..

Thanx moderator MARKIS, you forwarding my PM request to velocity rewards yesterday has made a bit of movement in receiving one additional credit for my MH flights. Thanking you!!!!

But I am confused I received 3SC for KUL-HKT flight but only 2SC for HKT-KUL? Why the difference when it is the same distance and sectors? Very odd..Can somebody explain this to me?

And still waiting for SYD/KUL/SYD credits on MH??

And still waiting for SYD/KUL/SYD credits on MH??

You'll find that whenever MH is involved, 90% of the time you'll have to submit a retro claim and this is true irrespective of which of their partner airlines you choose to credit to. Their systems don't seem to be well-connected with their partner airlines. Be glad you aren't dealing with Enrich though. It's a lovely airline to fly with but some of their systems, processes and overall mentality are just so archaic. Hopefully they get better with OW membership. Then again if they keep up with their habits of filing error fares and generous op ups to people with no status they can continue being archaic...

I called velocity today and found out these two things:

DELTA has now been dropped as a status earning partner, you cannot earn any SC on Delta anymore.

Also I clarified the question about zones eg if you fly MEL-AUH-LHR whether that is counted as one big 'zone' or two sectors and zoned that way for SC, the answer was that the SC are earned per sector on whatever airline you are flying.
So if you are a VA codeshare flight on etihad say VA MEL-AUH then VA flight number on a EY flight AUH-LHR they work out status credits on the earn rate of VA for the MEL-AUH and the EY rate for AUH-LHR.

Thanks for the update neon_crossing!

Seems odd for DL not to earn SCs when they're an alliance partner. I hope this is temporary and they're wanting to reconfigure the way SCs are earned on DL as part of the relaunch...?

That stil does not clear up the true meaning of sector, as defined by VA unfortunately. Hopefully its a teething problem in their system

No response to my PM sent yesterday lunchtime at this stage.....so I am totally confused. Want to book my next lot of flights, but will hold of until I understand the impact of the Sector interpretation!

Im hearing you. If I book weird routing, for no extra SC, its pointless may as well, book direct flight, or multi trip sectors in Flex rather than direct PE...

Delta has never been a SC earning partner. Only points. I suspect there is a lot more to announce on this front when the JV is officially approved.

Expect an announcement (very?) soon.
