I like the change that now allows ASA to earn points and status credits!

Did the release refer to points earn as well or only SC's. ???????????????

Obviously a direct copy of the QF program but great for me. I'm WP with QANTAS but red with VELOCITY and simply have been stacking up about 700,000 velocity points to use "one day". Looks like 2013 will be "some day".

Might give them a call and see if they will Status match qantas.

is the "saver lite" fare new?

So for a few extra dollars (except where seats are few) you can get SCs with your award booking? Sounds sweet.

Don't think so. That's a QFF thing. Any Seat awards on DJ are only the massive points price, they don't apply the reward seat price to ASAs.

At least I've never seen low points cost in the ASA section on Velocity.

I beg to differ, I would rather take the ASA in this case of Y:

Baggage decreases, by actual weight yes but increase in pieces, makes sense from an OH&S perspective.

True - but you saw the complaints made about it on here (and in the media) regarding the changes that the Roo had made

Difference was there was not a corresponding increase in pieces until later, DJ have learned that lesson! Dont think a Gold will have too many issues with two bags.

That saver fare is available for $158 outright purchase. Why use points at all?

7000 points is worth more than $37 to me .... But thats just me.

My point was that ASAs have a correlation with actual fares in virgin so the award priced JASA stuff isn't available yet for DJ.

But how many points would you be earning from the ASA ;)

Pretty happy camper here :D
Never used any velocity points, 3 trips to Perth next year looks like I might be going VA !

Another happy camper here. Might make it a little bit easier to retain status.

Actually how many would be earned? being the points are based of the fare paid?
Not more than the paid flight surely, must admit I'm not sure iof the relevance of Markis's comment given both get points?

Thats the question though, how will it earn points, is it total fare or just the cash component, until we know its hard to make a true value judgement.

That was the whole crux of the complaint - those who would need the 32 in one bag could no longer do so and were being penalised for it

Most were complaining because they were SG and took more than one, status/QP members still have 32Kg with QF if your crazy enough eg:

In the past, a weight limit was applied for both domestic and international travel, without a limit on the number of items carried. This was very helpful, as I often travel with a bike and one peice of check through luggage that contains clothing and other necessary items. The bike bag I used was well within the dimensions of travel and the combined weight of both items was always below 23kg.

Yep, me too. Usually a suitcase and a bike. My bike bag fully packed with bike, pump, tools and accessories weighs 14kg. So, this new policy means I need to add $105 to the ticket price.

Bad policy Qantas.

I'm amazed that someone who is QPNB travelling J class is limited to one bag. That's going to be very inconvenient for me as I often travel with two.

Always have had an intense dislike for piece limited systems. Not a good chance, even as an NB. What if between 4 of us we have 5 pieces? Say 4 suitcases and a 3kg duffel bag, or something that won't be allowed through as carry on such as a flag with pole (a legitimate concern for me as most of my travel is interstate or TT for sporting events).

Also paying for sporting equipment, that sucks even more. That was on of the better reasons to fly QF.

So if domestic flights will start earning SCs by sector, I wonder if each leg will then count as an eligible sector as well, seeing as connecting flights on the same PNR currently only count as one eligible sector?

is the "saver lite" fare new?

Yes, there was a thread around here somewhere about a new fare structure. I'm not sure what it involves but saver lite is right at the bottom of the pile.
