Yep as others said above, it should be fine to book via any method as long as it's a revenue seat.

Have to earn 55 status to keep my gold by feb 24
Prices have gone up so it will cost me $500 townsille to syd elevate to earn the required
Unless i can get the double status credits allocated by the 24/2 or backdated to allow me to retain gold

I rang Velocity the gentleman thought as the t&cs say up to four weeks to be allocated he did notthink i could counton them he seemed not 100% sure though. Anyone else have any thoughts or knowledge..would they backdate them to the date flown hence keeping my gold?

Yes, the system looks at the flight date, not the date processed. But DSC's often post 3-4 days after the original SC's post, so unless you are running close, it should happen automatically. You can always ring up and ask about manual intervention (in crediting the DSC's) but as it's system driven, you may not get a positive response. The 4 week period in the T&C's is to allow for system failures and manual processing.

Ok so i rang Velocity back and spoke to a Bruce he assured me if i fly in the time period before the 24/2 (when my review is due) The double status credits will count towards retaining my Gold. I have asked him to make a note on my account of our conversation. I will also book the flight for early next week give myself a bit of breathing space. Fingers crossed its that easy

Anybody off to RAR this weekend? Looking at a last minute trip!

I don't know about this weekend (who has that sort of freedom in life to head off on an international trip at such short notice!) but I have priced this out and am talking to a couple of friends. Just need a bit more research on what to do in RAR..

I worked it out to approx $2200 for a round trip SYD-BNE-AKL-RAR and RAR-AKL-MEL-SYD in BS. If i timed the trip for after requalification, it would allow for WP for another year (in one trip)..

It's a fairly insane (on the face of it) flight through - you leave SYD at 9:15 and arrive in RAR at 10:30 the same day - having spent 16 hours flying and connecting and crossing the international date line.. twice.

It's fairly insane to the normal flyer on the street, but you're in good company here - that's what we do sometimes to achieve and renew status

Many a time I reminisce about my across Australia and back status runs...those were the days

Time to go home and book two VA DSC weekends with my wife for planned meetings with fellow frequent flyers. Thank you VA. Gold renewal in the bag for 2019.

It gives an incentive to re-qualify or quality for Velocity Status. For those who probably don't fly VA much it's an opportunity to get them back onboard and sample their offering again.

I contacted 3 friends and was thinking about planning a trip together - so this definitely works for VA. It would sell 3 or 4 J seats and would qualify a few people as definitely gold and likely plat.. and that in turn would look at moving their flying over 2019/2020 onto VA..

So yes, if used judiciously and if VA kept investing into its velocity program (in terms of lounges and benefits) I can certainly see this helping to move the dial for them.

A bit of everything actually!

A status run would re-qualify for WP in one trip.
A holiday would be nice (even if it was a short one.. )
It'd also be a useful trip to organize some meetings/face to face conversations - basically networking in the pacific.

If you just like aviation.. it's kind of a neat trip to make as you get to cross the international date line twice in a single 24 hour period (which isn't something that is likely to happen all that often).

it's a weird feeling to think about being in City A on say the 15th, then land in City B on the 16th and then onto your destination where you arrive back on the 15th..

International aviation in J is also a nice idea to think about compared to the grind of domestic flying in economy (I think I did around 150 sectors in a calendar year once - all in economy and the only leg I got upgraded on was CBR-MEL! no complaints but it was hilarious.... as I'd stuffed myself with ham and cheese toasties in the lounge and then got served a really nice breakfast I couldn't actually eat.. and wasn't expecting)

Some people hate being on planes but I really enjoy it (especially if it's not a full flight and you have some space to yourself)

Or maybe Velocity got wind of something, and threw it together as quick as the could.

That's more than likely spot on but I suspect forward bookings are poor for both airlines and they'd try anything to stimulate sales.

No you won't. The T&C for this offer are that the flight has to be marketed and operated by Virgin Australia. That means it needs a flight number starting with VA and Virgin Australia needs to painted on the side of the aircraft. There's no way to get the double status credits on a flight run by Singapore Airlines.

You need to read the T&Cs. Double status credits are only available on Virgin Australia marketed and operated flights. Flights operated by another airline such as SQ do not earn double SC.

I can book VA flights to Brunei - flown by Singapore and Silk Air I think, that will give me DSC as they are VA ..., but it won't let me book the premium economy - even though its available when i just book the singapore leg by itself. Too bad you can't mix up the Class on multiple leg travel!

Any flights operated by NON VA Metal won't earn DSC. It's ony VA Metal that will earn DSC
