Re: Velocity Gold & Platinum

Velocity Platinum? Do you know something that we don't? ;)

Yes.... As the OP of the velocity Gold denied access to Delta sky club thread, I thought I would test it again at DTW Detroit. Flying Detroit to Lax (intersting side note... I am posting this at 20,000 feet on the Delta in aircraft wireless... Very nice to have wireless up here... )

I walked up to the desk in the sky club, presented my boarding pass and ID and was asked for my "club card". Handed over my velocity card and was told the didn't accept velocity. I asked if they had Virgin Blue cards listed and she said that the system said that they would accept" virgin blue gold or PLATINUM cards. " i flipped the card over and pointed out the small vigin blue logo. I was allowed access by the gatekeeper.... Will post some info and pics of the lounge later... Very nice...

Considering it is a very new partnership, it looks like virgin have already set the platinum cards up in the Dela system for when they are added.... Velocity Platinum hey.... Intriguing.... (and considering I've only just got Gold in the last month....)

Not sure if this should be a new thread ? Will leave it to the all mighty Mods to decide.....

I had a similar issue at Detroit Delta Lounge.

The staff member took my Gold card and swiped it and nothing came up on the computer and she hadn't heard of Velocity. She said maybe its not in the computer and looked through a folder which contained photocopies of different airline boarding passes FF cards etc. She then tried to select from a drop down menu and she found Velocity listed there.

I suggest that maybe ask the staff member to use the drop down menu as the card didn't swipe.

All rumour so far, could just be a glitch in their system, but when it is announced we can say you mentioned it first… well, other than everyone who has been suggesting it for ages :p

Same story for me, back in November I was denied access (as Velocity gold travelling on economy Velocity redemption fare) on a JFK to MIA flight. The reason suggested? Yes ... my card was also "not in the system". A few days later I took a Delta flight from TPA to LAX on a V Australia itinerary and the magic doors opened. I took the ballsy step of asking how she knew I was eligible. Her answer? Well it's here in the system. Obviously a different system to what they use in JFK ...

I had no problems at the LAX lounge when waiting for DL16. The lounge dragon (who was actually VERY friendly) promptly admitted me after reading the access rules. She did say that V Australia Velocity Platinum and Gold are permitted with same day DL boarding pass... perhaps she knows something we don't!

Perhaps someone should ask to have a look at the cheat sheet the next time this happens before an announcement, as they usually (no?) include a photo of what the card should look like. So perhaps you’ll see something we haven’t seen :p

Wow, had no idea, but then agaim i have flown dom J. How long ago was that?

Domestic J definitely could not access the QP in 2001. I'm guessing it was around 2003-2004 that domestic J pax got access to QPs (but I may be a year or two out).

I have a feeling it may have even been a bit later than that. I remember still needing to use my QP membership back then, and friends who flew J on points were denied entry - could have sworn it was around 2004...

Yeah I did think it was fairly recent. In fact, it's been quite a rapid progression to go from no access, to QP access, then to dedicated J lounges in only a few years.

Sitting in the JFK delta lounge right now, handed over my boarding pass and velocity gold card and was welcomed with no questions asked. I tell you what though, I wouldn't have been too impressed if I paid $50 to get in, these lounges don't even come close to a domestic QF lounge. It's dinner time, and the closest thing to food I can find is pretzels and choc chip cookies.

:D Great to hear that you had no trouble getting access.

I found the same thing in the Delta Atlanta Lounge... Over crowded , poor to non existent food choices, very poor internet with only 12 users able to log on at any time (yes ... just 12....), the only thin it had going for it was the full bar....

By comparison the Delta lounge at DTW Detroit was fantastic. Very new, great spaces, great food, great bar, each "Area" had a coffee machine, tea, juice and snacks... Very nicely decorated. Some nice spaces with lounges in front of fire places.... Would be happy to spend a few hours there even having paid $50...

Here are some pics from the DTW Delta Lounge....
