Velocity - Lifetime benefits

Admittedly the bulk of my travel is leisure-related, but I'm only human, flawed with the obsession of trying to earn status just like the rest of us. ;)
We all get jealous of the greener grass on the other side but when we can get there we wonder what all the fuss was about.

That being said it should not stop a healthy discussion about the pros and cons of status and what is costs.

Bump to see if there's any rumors of life time status for Velocity members. I've been Gold for 6 years now. Should count for something.

Just over 5 years actually, 8/07 saw Gold introduced.

You can buy lifetime Lounge membership for a large amount of money, though as you know, it doesn't do much internationally.

Awwwwwww.... I miss CrazyDave

[just looked at his reply to the OP on Page 1]

He's now at another airline... you'd think he'd change his avatar ;) although Vermin might be how they refer to them.

I started a rumour for you at my office this afternoon re lifetime Velocity status, but I was generally deemed to be an uncredible source, so it didn't get too far.

I would have to say no.

And if they did you would think the lifetime SC count would start at zero.

This would generate huge amounts of bad feeling amongst very frequent loyal flyers.

Can you imagine if a Platinum that earned 2000 Status Credits a year since inception of the level was told 'too bad, so sad, you start at 0 and have to earn your 20,000 for lifetime platinum' or whatever the Status Credits/Level would be? It would not bode well.

You may think they would start at zero but my experience suggests it would count from the date of join, which is logical.

I'd love to think they would (being selfish), however I doubt they will install anything - they like us to be like mice chasing status every year

I would love to see a life time status. I was gold for 3 years before the new FF program came out and was made Platinum on the day it was introduced, since I have been able to gift two Platinum companion member ships and one gold. On some quick numbers I reckon I would be at about 10,000 Status credits. Honestly if they did start from zero I would find it very hard to continue my loyalty to Virgin.

Bringing in lifetime status wouldn't increase revenue so it won't be brought in. Many many many FFPs are trying yo get rid of it so why would VA want to introduce lifetime... Also no doubt VA is having a few wins from qf lifetime gold members who throw the occasional flight over...

Really? Other airlines counted past status Credits.
Lots of airlines used to provide a lot more benefits to the top tiers. Some of them even had regular status matches.

The game has changed. I don't think an airline would bring in a lifefime status and then offer lifetime status to frequent flyers for past loyalty. Makes no sense to me. But that doesn't mean I am right.

Let's put it this way. If Qantas introduced Lifetime Platinum at 28,000 SCs it would make no sense to offer it on existing SC balances. Why? The SC balances some people accumulated the past couple of years via Any Seat awards and double SC offers is obscene and would offer them way more benefits than the income and loyalty they provided.
