Actually, read the word's very carefully. There is no lie there. The announcement was "later in the year" than the 22nd of August. 3 days later to be precise.

Sorry to break the news and spoil the fun, but our agent got it wrong. Yes we are doing some work on the weekend of the 20/21st August in preparing our systems for a change but this doesn't relate to our launch of Platinum - that's coming later in the year.

Although I do agree with the sentiments expressed about saying zip as opposed to fibbing, but in rereading what VA said, he technically was very truthful.

1. The agent did get it wrong (25th not the 22nd)
2. Confirmed work on the website 20/21......which did happen as stated
3. Platinum coming later in the year.......25 Aug is later in the year from 22 Aug!

Possibly the only thing that's doubtful was the comment about the "systems change" not relating to the launch of Platinum which in fairness, we mere mortals have no idea whether that is correct or not (though I'd be amazed if the Plat launch didn't require platform work over that week-end.

I did think about that. I suspect the "not related to" was in the sense that was implied by the earlier posts - that we wouldn't wake up when it was over and discover that we had the new status as we did with the new SC's. Probably not "not related to" in the sense that it didn't need to happen before. Although, having said that, chances are that most of the work they were doing was related to all the other stuff in the new velocity and not specifically to plat, which they may well have been able to do (without some of the benefits) under the old platform.

Totally disagree. A specific date was given. It was WRONG and the VA rep corrected it with ACCURATE information. What more do you want? You want them to leak a company secret here?

Btw he could have not replied at all but he didn't the reply was an attempt misguide the forum which is not good to do

But how do you know that? For all we know, the website work was adding in the updated bonus points earn for Silver and Gold. Yes it's absolutely splitting hairs, but there was no attempt to misguide the forum in my eyes.

Well actually the weekend change to the sight would have had to been to add platinum benefits in particular the benefits section which includes upgrades which is only a platinum benefit and I find it hard to believe that they would have added the increase in bonus points for silver/gold then do platinum separately

Let's face it the changes on the weekend where for the revamp which included platinum, besides shutting down their site for 2 days just add bonus points for silver/gold? Sounds a bit rich

Perhaps splitting hairs but their facts were correct and your rumour wasnt! I would accept that va were being coy but hard to accuse them of lying.

Well you have your opinion and I have mine either way in my opinion it was misleading btw it was not my rumor it was a comment passed on by a VA employee and my opinion she wasn't wrong in fact she was pretty accurate in my book and was kind to share the info maybe you should read the information before responding. Anyhow that's my last words on the matter as this all just opinion and interpretation and to finish, for now and forever if someone tells me later in the year I would never presume that means a couple of days!

The Virgin Australia/Velocity Frequent Flyer rep(s) in this forum have been nothing but outstanding, particularly of late.

Not only have they engaged this in online community, they have done so with enthusiasm and good will. They have been happy to help with people's problems, large or small. They are not required to do any of these things, official channels exist for these types of problems.

They are not required to answer your questions, or give you any information. Yet they choose to do it despite the members on here, it seems sometimes, who do nothing but whine and speculate doom and gloom.

So to the reps, I say a big 'Thank you' for your continual input and engagement with us. It's hard to think how I would ask you to improve.

And for the people getting carried away as if you have been cheated out of a business deal or "can no longer trust what the rep says", it's time for a reality check. The reps here don't owe you anything. Be thankful you are getting any information rather than none. And don't crack the sad's when they can't detail all of their corporate plans to satisfy your curiosity. Move on.
