Hi I have the card and wondering do I have to notify AMEX that I am going to USA in a month?
and I want to utilise the travel insurance
or is it all set and ready to go

They should already know - that is if you are hoping to use the included travel insurance.

To have it apply you have to satisfy the T&Cs which includes purchasing the tickets...

So AMEX automatically knows if you have complied with the T&Cs or rather they do in the future if you need to claim.

As a precaution to 'travel cc fraud' I do contact AMEX and let them know that I will be travelling via XYZ and do/do not intend to spend much on the card anywhere but ABC to guard against the card getting copied while on a stop over/transit stop. Helps protect you against an unfriendly issuer...

A too long period ago when talking with a senior exec running the world's largest issuer - he commented that unexpected amounts overseas are normally quite easy for any cc issuer/processor to notice and query.

It is simple enough to verify whether it is a known medical/Govt/travel service vs a cash advance/out-of-character purchase etc. Often if it is one of the generally legitimate reasons - the card holder will have already rung the associated Travel Insurance company who then flags it with the issuer.

This was my first ever Amex card and it has been great value. For $349 per annum, you get a free return flight each year, and 2 virgin lounge passes to use on your free flight. Also, as a sign on bonus you get 80,000 points. If you would be so kind as to use my link, I will also earn 20,000 points. Would be great to be able to treat my mum to a much needed overseas holiday :) Thanks in advance!

Just throwing my link in the mix if anyone is interested.

As you have already posted your referral link twice before, originally in October '16 and then December '16 and March '17, I am now deleting the subsequent posts. There is no need to post the same referral many times over.

Have thrown only one or two links on here in various forums from memory and never had a referral used so I will give things another go.

Things are a little quiet on the Velocity points accrual at present but with the introduction of the Melbourne to Honk Kong service and Melbourne to LA availability might well pick up soon. Also with KrisFlyer raising their rates Velocity is now better in most cases to book Singapore Airlines Y and J. Of course if you want that once in a lifetime experience you can still transfer points to KrisFlyer and book suites. Plenty of availability with Singapore through Velocity.

The card that got me started is the Amex Velocity Platinum

For $349 PA you get

80,000 Velocity Points when you spend $1,500 in the first 3 months of Card Membership.

You also receive

Up to 3 Velocity Points per dollar spent

1 Virgin Australia domestic return flight each year. You can use this flight yourself or book it for anyone else. Sydney Perth is not permitted but Perth-Sydney is so if you live in the West or know someone who does this flight alone is valued at much more than the annual card fee. Return flights are available between most other centres.

I would really appreciate anyone who clicks on my link as I will receive 30,000 points for your using it. Once you have the card you can create a link for family & friends to receive 30,000 pts if they use. (up to 200000 per year).

Thanks to anyone who uses my link and it would be doubly appreciated if you let me know by posting or PM if you do so.

Cheers
