Velocity points on Etihad and SingaporeAir

Travelling to Europe this time next year for approx 6 weeks. Looking to use Velocity points for Business reward seats.
As the seats are released approx 329 days in advance, I’d like to book outbound one way when they’re released, and the return 6 weeks later when they’re released. Is this possible? Don’t want to wait for when the return seats are released incase the outbound dates are then unavailable.
In addition to this, if able to book separately one way, can we go out with Etihad and back with Singapore? We’re in QLD and would love to go out on A380 from Sydney on Etihad, and back to Brisbane on Singapore.

I'll try to share my experience as I am in the process of booking myself for Jul 2020. Yes , if there is Reward Seat availability , you will definitely be able to book Etihad on outbound journey and Singapore for Inbound journey.

However please note that reward seats do get booked very fast so keep looking out for reward seats daily.

In our case , have been trying to book PE on Singapore Airlines for Jul and don't seem to have lot of availability.

As I was in a similar catch , I was suggested by the forum veterans to compare the reward points required both on VA and Krisflyer before actually converting points.

However do note that availability on Singapore Airlines with miles is better compared to reward seats on VA.

Apologies but I did assume that you are trying to make two different reward seat bookings and not on a single booking.

If its two different bookings , then its simple however if you plan to book a return ticket then I fear it will be difficult as the tickets are booked very fast.

Biggest problem with using the Etihad flights are the surcharges. I flew J reward on Etihad before via VA with points and it was a great experience. Really solid airline IMHO. Just not cost effective.
However, I nearly always now fly SQ J because of availability and much lower surcharges.
Consider the points conversion rates and work out what suits best. If you really want to guarantee flights then go SQ directly.

I will follow that approach so im not too late.

I pretty much always book separate one-ways with awards. Most award charts Australians would use (including Velocity on Etihad and Singapore) have no points discount for two one-ways over returns. It also lets you lock-in the outbound before the inbound is available, and use different airlines and/or different currencies, and independently tweak one booking without affecting the other.

Yes, I make 2 different bookings with x weeks apart, whichever airlines I need. You have to grab the seats as they come up. If you wish to try different airlines, as recommended do a cost comparison to see what suits you.
You can also phone SQ to discuss so that you get the full picture - ph patched to SIN: 02 82281188. If your seats are available you may even get them to book it whilst you transfer the VA points to SQ as it's very fast IME. But, I'd grab those seats asap.

I'm looking at 2 x SQ J from Syd to any NW Europe city at the end of Sept 2020 return 2 weeks later in early Oct. I have just under 700k VFF points.

Currently considering Stockholm, Copenhagen, Munich, or Amsterdam as we will be going onwards to Iceland and can connect from any of those cities to Reykjavik via Icelandair.

Happy to buy 1 person's tickets in Y and points upgrade to J, while using points for the other person in J. Feasible?
Also happy to fly VA to Bris or Melb if that enables me to get onto a better priced SQ flight.

Just need to first try booking via Velocity call centre, if that doesn't work transfer points to KF and go direct to SQ right? Then change the booking to have my VFF number on it later.

Just as an example, SQ SYD - SIN - FRA - (A380) - LH DUB is 51.500 K miles on say 11 October.

SQ J SYD-MUC on A380/A350 and, + LH MUC - DUB on A319

So, you'd have plenty of miles. Just check that all sectors are the class you want.

Open both airlines route maps and you'll see what you prefer.
