Can you use Velocity Reward points for an around the world trip? what are the points roughly for economy and business? i know you have a tickets thats 5 or 7 stops etc. any info appreciated!!!

I don't believe there is an equivalent to the oneworld RTW rewards, unfortunately.

You can of course book flights to go around the world via partners...

you could always make one up ! and with SA coming online sometime soon , opens up Africa .... and NZ starting Argentina ... another way to get to South America easy

You can redeem Velocity points to do around the world on star alliance, by doing transfer to Krisflyer. Number of velocity points required is 243,000 in Y; 324,000 in J and 486,000 in F.

I suspect it would require both less points and less taxes to use a series of one way awards (and even cash fares for short hops), using VA partners supplemented by transferring to Krisflyer and doing awards on star alliance as required.

According to AusBT, we can now earn VR points on *A partners of SQ, so burning VA/VR points on *A might just be round the corner.
Without VA actually joining *A, being able to earn points on *A partners is good, gives me something to look forward to, for me one day down the track, (maybe going ADL to SYD to BKK to SIN to ADL, using both VA, TG and SQ in the same trip).

That news item was about a back door way of earning velocity points on a Star airline . The way it works is you need to be a member of SQ and credit the star flights to SQ . Once you travel and the points are in your SQ account , transfer them to Velocity

To burn your VA points on Star, you need to transfer them to SQ and burn them there.

I saw a post on Milepoint about the blog article below.

BIG TRAVEL: Going to Brazil on your way to Europe for only 17,000 miles - Thinking Big with Miles

The article is US centric but the key point is that SQ fly GRU-BCN (and v.v) on a 5th Freedom route. From Brazil, it's not legal to charge fuel tax, so you can book whY for just over 17k miles and a couple dollars. The reverse would be a couple hundred bucks in fuel tax.

Anyway, I've not even tried to work out the points for an RTW trip on single sectors, but this could be a cost effective sector using VA and SQ (under the closer ties between the airlines) to cross the Atlantic and assuming someone wants to go via SA to Europe.

Obviously, it's easy to complete an RTW itinerary from Oz on SQ: GRU-BCN-SIN-xx_. Options to maximise VA gets a bit harder. Trans-PAC:. perhaps SYD-EZE on NZ, but make own way to GRU? VA / DL to LAX then GRU? Similarly, return could be EY BCN-AUH and AUH-xx_ on EY/VA.

Anyone with more spare time than me, I'd be curious to know the best use of points in J. ;)
