About 6-7 weeks ago, I did the online application from my Velocity to obtain IHG platinum. After waiting the advised 20 business days, I contacted Velocity to chase it up and then waited the further 5 business days they suggested before calling again yesterday.
Velocity can see it has been raised with IHG, but IHG haven't facilitated the upgrade.
Is this a common occurance? I have an existing IHG account (details match), with existing points and forward booking.
Is it worth pursuing this advertised benefit? Or is it too much of a problem to be bothered with?
 
You already requested for it so might as well chase it up. It was the same for my Hilton Honor Diamond. I had to chase them. In term of IHG Platinum, you can get it via buying IHG Ambassador ($200 USD or 40,000 points) and it extends till Dec 2024.
 
Mine took a good 8 weeks, but finally happened after I followed up a couple of times.

Did you follow it up with Velocity or IHG? I've been waiting 9 weeks now and have a booking coming up in 3 weeks so hoping to have status recognised by then

My husband had a similar issue with the VA Platinum upgrade to Hilton Honors. We tried for months by following up with VA, but the upgrade never came. We requested that the marker be reset in his account so that we can request and attempt the upgrade again at another time, but this didn't happen either. Pretty disappointing... he had been a platinum for years and simply hadn't actioned the benefit. Yet many years ago when I actioned mine (to IHG) it only took a matter of days and zero need for follow up.
 
How does one confirm if the application to Upgrade IHG membership has happened? I requested the upgrade back in January 2024.

Check your IHG account to see if it now says Platinum? After this amount of time, if it hasn't been actioned then you will need to follow up again with Velocity.
 
I had to take it up again with them. Eventually got sorted. Give them a call.
 
As far as I’m concerned this “benefit” is just rubbish on the part of Virgin. Applied for it while Platinum, never got it. Followed up once and nothing, too busy to follow up again, have since dropped to gold.
Seems this has been an ongoing problem for years - Virgin need to either fix this application process or stop advertising the ‘benefit’. The onus shouldn't be on the customer to repeatedly have to follow up.

Yes it is pretty disappointing and you're right, we shouldn't have to keep asking them to chase it.
 
Can I be reminded, when you achieve Platinum renewal for the next year, do you get to choose again between Hilton or IHG elite or is it just a "one off"?
 
A few of us have had it reinstated for a second time merely for asking. It helps if you’ve held Platinum status for several years before asking though.
That is good to know, as we've been platinum for many years and my husband only got around to requesting the Hilton status nearly 2yrs ago, so it would be good to see him able to choose IHG instead. Hilton obviously don't care to honour their "honors" reward.
 
It's a one off.
A one off at each level - Gold and Platinum. So you can in theory fire off a request on reaching Gold (for HH Gold or IHG Gold) and then if you attain VA Platinum, fire off another one at a suitable time for IHG Platinum or HH Diamond.

If you don’t use the Gold SM on the way up, it does reappear if you find yourself soft landing to Gold from Platinum. I used my Gold version last year before hard landing to Silver and Red…

I've just been through this. They pushed back saying I was gold and wasnt entitled. Had to go through the explanation that it was requested while platinum, sent through proof, and eventually it was sorted. But it would be nice if it just worked.
