Very new to amex points : quick question

They do indeed. They will all accumulate under your Ascent Premium account if you have a Platinum Charge card - which will give you the option of transferring them to QFF if you want.

This hasn't been my experience. My points were accruing to Ascent Premium for a year or so, then I received a letter from Amex telling me that an error had been made, and that the points from the edge would now be going to an Ascent account. So now I have the 2 accounts even though the cards are linked.

Now that sucks. I confirmed that all the points would be sent to my Ascent Premium, which they currently are, via AMEX's secure email before applying for the Edge card. I just went to check my messages to see exactly what they said, but of course the emails have timed out and I forgot to print them. Hopefully, although obviously not for you, that your case is a one off.

My understanding(from reading this forum during my short life-span) is only the platinum charge points go to the premium program.

Yep, I plan to get similar cards to the above , but just wanted the velocity one for the 80k bonus points . That's why I'm wondering if you get any fee refunded prorated if you cancel it during the first year :-)

Hi unfunkable, you "may" get fee refunded prorated if you cancel during first year. However, even if they don't refund annual fee pro rata, you still get a lot out of the card:

- 80000 VA points via referral link (see my signature for example), that is a lot more than the Platinum Edge offer
- Free domestic VA return flight, with great coverage than the free VA flight from Platinum Edge card
- Free 2 * VA Lounge Passes, which Platinum Edge doesn't have.

All those above easily covers the $349 annual fee.

So if you want VA point boost, it is probably the best card right now.

If my wife and I both have a velocity card each, are we allowed to get SUPP cards for each other? (to get more of the statement credits :-D )

I had the edge and after I got my charge card this happened:

For the first few days after I activated my charge card points my edge card had Ascent as MR and charge card had Ascent Premium as MR
Points in the first few days on both card went to Ascent Premium
Ascent disappeared on day 5 and where it shows the points section now refers you to the charge card

The points accrued on Ascent never appeared on Ascent Premium so I called Amex and they said all of the points of Ascent was forfeited as the original Ascent was closed when i activated the charge card, I went on a 10 seconds rant and the guy refer to his manager who agreed (out of goodwill! - it is like as if is my fault for not use up the points in Ascent before applying for charge) to transfer the points to Ascent Premium.

Hope that is useful for people.

Edge is part of the Ascent program and Charge is part of the Ascent Premium program. If you have both cards then points from both card gets credited to the Ascent Premium program. If you only have Edge then you are in the Ascent program.

Hey all
I have an opportunity to spend about 14k on a product but get charged 2% fee. I have an explorer card now, I will be getting a plat edge later, then hope to convert them to ascent points.
So that's 28k points for $280. It's through work, so the fee will be an expense, which means it's about $140 for 28k points, would you do it? Works out to be 0.5c per point, but I'm such a tightass and so used to getting my points for free - ie: using it at places where no surcharge. So just getting opinions. Cheers

I'd definitely buy if <1c and usually at 1.5c. Its not hard to get 2c value on premium flights although given that I wouldn't pay full price some of that 'value' is questionable
