Just looked at October for a Perth to Melbourne. flight so I can go and be with my family. QF 802 will be departing one hour earlier it seems so that it gets into Vic at the usual 5:30 Pm time.
What is with that. Penalise the West Aussies once again GRRRRR. Now I have to fly to Perth the night before and fork out more coin.. Not Happy.:(:(

I agree.

Much simpler if it was compulsory for all states to observe daylight savings.

Yeah but with the Queenslanders and Western Australians probably wont happen anytime soon.

Proof of the so Called Queensland Daylight Savings Issues
Many people on WP and elsewhere have asked me to explain how the so called silly comments about daylight saving can be true – so here goes.
1. Fading Curtains
Many rural (and urban) families tend to close the curtains when they get home from work to keep out the hot sun, then open them again after the sun goes down to let more air in. Given day light savings gives you one additional hour in the evening after work, this increases the fading of curtains. This may not actually be the case.
Bull****! You have not created any more daylight. If you were a smart QLDer, a rare breed, you would close the curtains when you went to work and open them after the sun went down.. No extra hours or faded curtains! Dumbass!
2. Cows giving less milk
Cows don't read clocks, so when they give their milk at 4am, each and every morning ready for the trucks to pick up by 4:30am to get into town for us to drink. When daylight savings starts the cow's 4am is now 3am and the cow gives less milk. That is – the reason cows produce less milk in DLS is because they don't know about the change. This may not actually be the case.
Bull****! Cows do not have watches. They are governed by the sun coming up and the sun going down. This argument only holds water if we give cows watches and teach them to read time.
3. Killing children (The important one).
The kids get out of school at around 3:10pm to (in many cases) walk home. This is fine as the core UV times are 10am to 2pm. Of course in daylight savings they are heading out in the peak UV period (which is now 11 am to 3pm) causing more UV issues. Hats, creams etc help a little – but with 16 or 17 UV ratings the only real protection is to get inside. Sadly, they get run over by cars due to poor light conditions later on in the afternoon. This may not actually be the case.
Bull****! We already know that forcing kids to wear sunscreen and hats is making them Vitamin D deprived. Teach the dumbass parents that too much sun for little johnk/sarah is a bad thing will fix this..
In summary, Day Light savings is not designed for tropical regions like Far North Queensland. That is why they don't have it. Polls have repeatedly shown that the majority of Queenslanders outside the south-east corner do not want daylight saving.
Bull****! The average Queenslander is not smart enough to be bale to figure out daylight savings. Maaaate nobody is going to take away an hour of my drinking time! Maate I will not get up an hour earlier and work an hour longer...
In the south-east of Qld, the same polls show that the majority do want it, and the geography of the area means that it would work. However, the problems of how to integrate two time zones in the one state have so far proven impossible to manage. In other parts of the country, such as the 80% of people who live south of the Queensland border, it is entirely practical.

      • Why would you want to have the sun come up at 4am and only start doing stuff at 8am and then have the sun go down at 5pm just when you get home from work? Stupid is as stupid does... and no your dumbass will not die if you wind your clock back one hour...

As the majority of Australia has daylight savings then it makes sense.

Fixed that for you ... :p

(Not that I am against DS - I quite like it.)

Yeah. I figured someone would do that. It was too early for me to be such a pedant. :p

This just sums it up totally. QLD needs DLS.

WA does not recognise DST.
Thats where the difference in timings come into play, especially when flights cross from/into DST states in Australia.

Because DST is a state issue there is no way the federal government can compel any state to participate. The two parochial (red neck?) states like to think they are better than the rest of Australia and can make their own choices regardless of the impact on their residents.

Of course it is a political decision but the divide and conquer methods they use are typical of the methods that both sides of politics use to attain/retain office even if it may be to the ultimate detriment of their state.

Don't tar us all with the same brush...

God only knows who the QLD government think they are keeping happy by refusing to introduce DST. I don't know anybody who doesn't want it. Admittedly, I'm SEQ based though.

There was a referendum in QLD in 1992 and in WA in 2009. Seems the "residents" voted against it.

Gee HVR, there was a referendum in QLD in 1992 and in WA in 2009. Seems the "residents" voted against it.

A 22 year old vote does cannot in anyway represent current views. Now, I'm not saying the result would be different if another referendum was held tomorrow, but that result is out of date.

I'm not at all sure what "daylight savings" are, maybe some sort of K-Mart special offer?

I am, however, looking forward to Daylight Saving, no more being woken up by the sun an hour before I need to get up, and I'll enjoy the extra hour of sunlight in the evening.

Lot more people in Queensland now.

Yes, hence the Daylight Saving for South East Queensland Referendum Act 2010 to have another one. But it was defeated because "regional Queenslanders were overwhelmingly opposed to daylight saving".

Seems metropolitan SE Qld wants it but not the rest of the state?

Oh come on! Is the name calling really necessary?

Have you LIVED in those states? It's HOT. When you have DST it means it's hottest when the kids are (supposed to be) walking home from school, and when workers get out and are trying to get home (often on un-airconditioned public transport).

And then there's the Trying To Sleep While The Sun Is Still Up And It's Still Fourty Degrees.

There are very good reasons to hate DST if you live in WA or QLD. The fact that WA has tried twice to introduce it and both times (1984 and 2009) it was rejected by the majority tells you that there ARE.

I live in Melbourne and have no choice in the matter, but, having come from (what I consider) a sane state, I will never like DST. The number of unpleasantly hot and crowded tram rides I have to endure every summer after work don't bear thinking about. If you want more hours of sunlight, get up early, when it's cool and beautiful.
