I bet the crews in the cargo planes (civil and military) will be double checking their cargo's from now on for a bit...

When I saw the footage on ABC 24 I like couldn't believe what I was seeing. Reminded me of the time I was watching CNN on 11/09/2001 and I saw the second plane hit one of twin towers... :(

Re: Ask The Pilot

If you get a chance, have a look at the livery for the aircraft that came down today in Afghanistan. A beautiful livery for a 747-400, I'm sure you'll agree.

Google: N949CA which was it's registration and you'll see the images. (Don't want to infringe copyright by posting a pic taken by someone else).

A really sad day for aviation when a beautiful machine like this falls to the ground and takes innocent life with it - RIP to the crew and thoughts with their families and co-workers. :(

astounding footage - classic stall movements, very sad for the crew

Re: Ask The Pilot

What a surreal video, I could only imagine what was going on in the coughpit in those last moments. Such a tragedy.

Oh dear- you're right, what a beautiful bird, such a waste! Though, of course, the most beautiful aircraft pales in comparison to innocent lives being lost at the same time- sad, sad :(

No, it is a very steep ascent, however from what I have read that is not uncommon when operating from airports in hostile countries where there is a real risk of some sort of ground weapons being used against aircraft, the downside of such ops is if something does go wrong, there is very little margin for error in getting things back under control.

It's steep because it's uncontrolled.

You cannot make an aircraft climb at liftoff any steeper than you'll get with full take off power, and a speed of V2+10. That's pretty well a normal operation.
