Hi All, travelling with Vietnam Airlines MEL - SGN - HND in April.

Carrier has cancelled the return leg from HND to SGN. Was departing 3:30pm, rebooked on 9:30am flight.

Do we have any rights, due to the change we have to change our itinerary significantly. We were returning from Sendai via Shinkansen, will need to rebook that to return a day early and overnight in Tokyo to make the flight.

I'd like to cancel and rebook with another carrier, but not sure if I am entitled to a full refund.

Any advice you can provide?

Cheers!

If you booked direct through Vietnam airlines, their terms and conditions set out your entitlements: Conditions of Carriage

A delay of 5 or more hours gives you the right to a refund. However the refund may deduct the flight you have already taken, and how airlines calculate that can make a huge difference to how much you get back.

For example, if they calculate travel already taken at the full one way fare, your refund could be quite small!

VN says they may also offer you alternative arraignments, including other carriers.

So best to call them, find out any alternatives, and how much your refund might be.

If you have booked through a travel agency, you will need to go back to that agency to discuss your options.

Hi, thank you for your very prompt response!

We were booked via an agency, they have now investigated several options but all were a lot more expensive.

So we will stick with this.

Means we're up nice and early on the return date.
