Viking or Hurtigruten?

That would be much appreciated. Having already committed to a lot this year we are now looking for Jan/Feb 'ish 2025.

Here you go

I will get to sit down and do an in-depth TR at some stage but a couple of days into our Havila cruise and must say I’ve been very impressed so far. Ship is very new and spacious and quality of F&B onboard is pretty decent. Already looking at booking another longer trip next year or two and this is from someone who wasn’t a cruise fan

Northbound. Bergen to Kirkenes 6 nights. We had to settle on a Seaview Superior as we booked rather late and all the Suites and Balcony rooms tend to sell out fast apparently. We applied for upgrades several times without luck but TBH we have spent very little time in our room. I pre booked and paid for several excursions and also went with the Havila Gold upgrade which has been worth it IMO. I didn’t go for any of the drinks packages as I think they don’t offer great value. The room has ample size and although the bathroom is a tad small it has heated floors and the shower is great. Very comfortable and modern ship but not as much to do onboard as other cruise ships but food and beverages have been excellent and I’m a fussy eater so don’t eat half the stuff on the menus.
Will definitely book with them again

Well Mrs Jase has vowed to not step foot on a cruise ship again!
Weather turned horrible and the Norwegian Sea is tossing us around like rag dolls. When you look out the window on our 5th floor room and the waves are at eye level it ain’t fun 🤣
A lot of pretty sick looking folk onboard.
The ship has been superb and couldn’t ask for anything more from the crew onboard and accompanied by stunning views but her seasickness has dampened the experience

you are in a pretty rough area. Put her on the Mediterranean and she'll be fine

I’ve got a mate in the test cricket team and we are planning on visiting the West Indies next year so I need to convince her that a Caribbean short cruise will be fine 🤣
Your luck probably means a very rare cyclone there 🤦‍♀️

It took me over 20 years but MrP experienced similar over the pacific. Took him on a 7 night July summer Med cruise. I struggled to get him off the ship at the end and said that 7 days was just not long enough and book longer next time. The North Sea is not a beginners cruise.

Avoid hurricane season then. Which is when summer season of Test cricket is on so should be fine. In which case avoid spring break for US.

Show her my upcoming TR for my Caribbean cruise this Christmas. Oh, and meclizine for sea sickness; a winner. Can't get it in Oz, though.

It's my favourite for travel sickness too - recently I've had luck getting a bottle on amazon australia.

Quoting myself to remind people not to buy random remedies off the internet .... chat to your doctor yada yada.

But from my experience (as a queasy traveler not a doctor!) meclazine is the best for me. Hyoscine (Travakalm, kwells) works very well but I find the dry mouth very unpleasant plus you have to take several tabs a day. I haven't been game to try the scopalamine patches because I'm somewhat sensitive to medications, plus I wear contact lenses so that can be dangerous (if you touch your eyes after touching the patch, your pupils can dilate for a looooong time). Diphenhydramine (dramamine in the USA) completely makes me unconscious asleep for 4 hours.
