Vinomofo Wine Deals

The first cases of wine that I ever bought were from Winestar and I have always found them to provide good service (as in the case reported by RB) and offer reasonable prices, so I'm happy to give them a plug. Never tried to send anything back, however, which is (of course) the single advantage of dealing with VM.
Never had any issues with WineStar and my last 3 purchases were with them. Their secret deals offerings are sharp and in some cases better than VM. Any dozen gets a free shipping.

My last purchases were

Rolf Binder Hanisch shiraz 2018 $50
Reschke RSR CS 2020 $13
Burge Draycott Shiraz 2018 $25

Any thoughts on the 2020 RSR?

I haven't tried it, personally I think it is too young, however my not overly sophisticated friend who had it, said it was a nice wine and was happy with my tip.

Here are couple of professional reviews

There is little doubt that this is a bit special. The grapes are the best the Estate offers, from their Henry Albert vineyard, planted in 1998 in Coonawarra. The wine spends 18 months in French oak hogsheads, before barrel selection determines the final wine. Dark, almost mysteriously so, this wine offers notes of mocha, chocolate, coffee beans, soy, florals and spices with fully integrated oak. This is balanced, intense and yet elegant. A wine with finesse. Silky tannins, exceptional length, the palate sees the emergence of violets and aniseed notes. This will provide pleasure for eight to fifteen years with ease. Drink: 2023 - 2038; Price: $75.00; Rating: 95 Points; Ken Gargett

The user-friendly 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon is immediately expressive as it delivers vibrant blackcurrants and violets aromas with a dusting of dried herbs. Good upfront concentration follows. A fine seam of tannins keeps the attractive texture in shape. It's close to peak now but will hold for a little while. Drink: 2024 - 2030; Rating: 92 Points; Vinous

Thanks for the tip, Wiz. I thought the Burge was delicious, although I think the best shiraz in my VM time was the Old Faithful from McLaren Vale, another of your tips. I will give the WineStar Burge a go. Is there a means of uncovering their specials akin to the VM engine?

All of the Winestar Mystery wines also appear on the site un-masked at the high price. It usually only takes a few minutes to find the matching wine if you can't find a match for the tasting notes using google.

Hehe - I did say from Barossa!

Definitely the best Barossa shiraz I ever got from VM.

And as RB said - unwrapping secret WineStar wines is very easy as they always have uncovered product for sale at a full RRP to check against!

I mentioned the origin of the Old Faithful to indicate that I had noticed your claim: I was just making one of my own and paying a small tribute to your sagacity in directing others to fine wines at affordable prices!

What meet-up subforum? I admit I've never seen this or would know how to find it.

Any view on Devitt & Moore Captain D. Bruce Shiraz 2017

I boomed on the 2013 about 9 months ago and thought it wasn't too bad. Same price at $179.40 for a sixer. Bit one dimensional but big and bold with eucalyptus, oak and cassis - drank like a $30-40 wine so probably a fair price on VM.

Are you sure it was the Shiraz you bought and not the Cabernet?

Any grenache to recommend currently on sale?

This is an absolute corker for the price in my opinion. May be hard to find by the bottle in your area though (fortunately for me the winery is a 2min drive).
