Vinomofo Wine Deals

Managed to snag Henschke Mt Edelstone 2012 Shiraz & Cellared Favourites (6pk) - Mixed Case | Vinomofo Australia

Only for VM to email saying it was a mistake and it was out of stock and they will refund me. Am totally Pi55ed off, they are an e-commerce company and know exactly how many they have and it goes oos as soon as they sell out. I feel like that just didn't want to honor the deal. Any advice on way to actually get it?
I bought this 6 pack. But then I realised the other 5 dubious wines it was packaged with and the hassle of gifting/giving them away, so I called them and asked to cancel it. So maybe it is a blessing in disguise.

I haven't bought nor tried Mt Edelstone for many years, saw this as an opportunity and I can get at least $10pb for the other wines in quaffer packs for friends, they are at least that good. But a couple there I'm happy to try for myself.

I actually did a similar math on the back of the envelope and then asked myself if I was ok with buying Mt Edelstone for $140. And then I dialed Vinomofo.

I looked at the other 5, couple looked ok few could be mid weekers / bbq wine.

I suspect I "got" a cancellation, only for them to renege!

I dont know what you're all on about but my cellar is slowly just filling up with 50$ st henri's, so im happy :)
$50 St henri sounds great against the backdrop of its price over recent years. But it seems at the mo there's some rich fishing on previously $100 and above wines (and by that I don't mean the made for China never heard of it stuff).

Seems to my jaundiced eye that in the past few months the big wine groups are looking hard at shifting volume at the premium end in increasing amounts. Might be imagining it but cellardoor, langtons and others, including VM getting in on it which seems a bit new, seem to be offering a lot at around half price - the likes of penfolds, WB, wynns and Petaluma, even a smattering of henscke, which haven't always attracted such big discounts. TWE seems to be seriously chopping. I wonder if it's the glut and maybe a prediction it's not going to abate soon so some hard decisions are needed. Or something else. Anyhoo, I wonder if this is a good omen for us bargain hunters for EoFY.

^^ this. I'm finding that that are a lot of wines in my cellar in the 8-10 year old range, and I've been booming on the offers for $60-80 wines of the same vintage for $20-30 ea...these are all on the quaffer pile now. But I probably have 60 or so $100+ wines that I don't have enough special occasions for so it's gotta be a good deal before I add any more at the top end.

Yep, this sure tallies with my experience, including how I'm ever going to get through the top end of my cellar while I still have the ability taste stuff. My kids will be lucky I suppose.

Maybe not quite 20-30 but just looking at recent TWE very rich mining in the 30-40 zone for stuff that was previously seldom buy (eg, St Peters, Balmoral, wynns V&A, pyrus), and top shelf coming right down to tempting level and being thrown around in deals (eg, riddoch, st henri, BW black and plat) aargh.

The economy is being felt by everyone including the larger winemakers as people cut back.

Your kids? I'm happy to be your adopted son if you're keen, I'll happily help ease some of that mountain-of-wine build up you've got going on :)

Jokes aside the above convo seems about correct from my experiences lately as well, even from mid/late last year too, a lot of movements with accolade / twe brands. Almost seems bit by bit for certain brands too? The upper end of grant burge had some great discount movements since last year (meschasdisashashs. and shadrach too), petaluma's had some good buys.. Arras also had their own situation too which cause some great discounts to pop up.

Have been gazumped several times on Vinomofo on high-class wines where they've taken the money double-quick but supplied nothing. Eventually an insulting message saying the wine won't be coming and they're keeping the funds for me as a "credit".

And each time I've noticed those same bottles later appearing as the highlight of a mixed case, with 5 other dubious wines that are probably winemakers burying their mistakes.

Had some of the 2013 Blackbutt last night with a beef stew and it's up there for my best buy for a while. Really nice sophisticated red at 11yo, and with a store credit and the flash code last night it worked out very cheap indeed. Not a jam bomb, but loads of secondary character after a decant and breathe. I used to drool at this one in the frankly not very affordable section of wine shops.

Still some left:

Interesting, I got both the 2013 Blackbutt and the 2019 Old Faithful. Different wines but I had a side by side taste test and thought the Old Faithful was a better buy. I'll try a proper decant next time - the Blackbutt didn't taste like an "aged" wine to me.

The Blackbutt needs air. Day 2 was better drinking than day 1 - however, I hadnt given it much time to breathe on day 1. Had a good lick of sediment in bottle too. Happy enough with the buy.

I boomed on the Blackbutt last night with the $15 Flash. Thanks for your opinions. Look forward to giving it a crack, and i'll be sure to decant. Has strong reviews.

Going to have to try the Blackbutt a try as well, I have it but haven't opened it up yet. It's on the list!

Has anyone tried the reschke reserve cab sav? Curious how it compares against the RSR.
