What have you got against them?! If you go on to read the reviews on their products, the score between 90-94 pts. Wine is open to interpretation, its why we love it. If you take everything JH says as gospel and don't try things for yourself, why bother?
I for one happen to love the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2013 Shiraz that Possum Creek produce. The Malbec isn't the best in the world and you are right to say that Wendouree is quality. But if you compare every Shiraz, Malbec etc to Wendouree, you might as well just keep drinking only Wendouree.
I really like the Zonte's Footstep Malbec, if I could get Wendouree for the same price that I pay for that, I absolutely would. But that doesn't mean I am going to say that Zonte's is rubbish because it isn't Wendouree.
Try to keep an open mind and try new things, not just what people conform to what people refer to as "the best" and nothing else is worth your time.
that Zar brooks and his wife elena do make some good stuff. Together with ben riggs, there are plenty of good Dandelions in Zonte's Footsteps especially with Five Veess as company.
The Zontes footstep rose is always a nice wine, sometimes a knockout. The beuregard malbec I believe it's called is one you like. personally, I am not a malbec fan. Dandelion Riesling is stunning, Dandelion merlots have taken my breathe away at times, The lake doctor shirazes are a little hit and miss from time to time, the cabs are good. Generally very good wines. One of my recent purchases - who has bought from a crowd called laithwates-the wine people before??? included 3 free shirazes with nice stories attached, so I have found them to be of great value......in fact, and this story will be for another time, but I once ordered 48 bottles of a south Australian shiraz at $15 each, and send the majority back for a total refund of close to $700. Now that's a refund amount I bet no one has come close to.
Sure questions were asked, and I think I had on sold about 12 of them, but the great folk at Lathwaites credited every cent. And free postage. Another time for the full story, but this culminated on a Fathers day sunday, a couple oy years ago I think, with me taking finger to keyboard to express my thoughts on how a wine could dramatically change so much from the initial tasting where I thought it was mind blowing enough to buy 48 of them, to my fourth bottle tasting where my disbelief was driving me bonkers questioning my taste, palate, everything. But a sunday experiment involving my wife and two kids, who acted as color consultants and tasters eventually got me to write a lengthy note that resulted in a call from the big boss early Monday morning. Pretty damn good service from them. In fact, I recently bought their 12 pack of roses with I believe the free dandelion shiraz in it.......
the boss talked to the purchasers who wanted to see if different batches were involved. the answer came back that the issue was 'spontaneous oxidation". after doing a little reading, this concept hs been written about. I didn't care. They treated me professionally, and allowed me to get on with it. I put back most of the $700 odd into their Christmas packs which allowed me to buy some vinomofo like discounted "quality" wines such as lakebreeze arthurs reserve shiraz, Lloyd reserve shiraz, cherubino shiraz and shottesbroke eliza all for $22 each.
Then I discovered the Fo thru my brothers purchase last septemberish of.........can you stab a guess of this 2011 shiraz that 1 loved.....you got it, the glenlofty. and the rest is histoty. Time for bed
