Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

Just use the links in the emails. I'm finding it's a bit hit-n-miss whether they still have stock or not.

Today's 96 point McClaren Vale shiraz is the Reynella Cellar 1 - anyone tried this? Seems to have decidedly mixed reviews.

I didn't bother...

I got the third "Salvation" case which had 7 VM bottles (1 good, 6 cheaper but okay bottles) and 5 cough CoTD bottles (cheap & not very good).

Ever since then I have focused on buying only when I *know* what I am getting... Still some good stuff on VM, but you need to pick and choose more and more.

I thought you could return the wine for a full refund

In hindsight, I probably should have, but I actually liked the more expensive bottle, so drunk it and cooked with the coughpy wine.

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

The 'Fo is a pretty hot marketing exercise, but caveat emptor is really really trumps when it comes to plonk.
I'm really pleased with my Hand Crafted Langrein, and just so so about another that was really well reviewed.
Good advice to only buy what you can sus out...
Overall , a great site and some really good deals

Agree that's the best strategy for VinoMofo, their marketing is great but the truth is always in the bottle. My first order was swayed by the marketing and I enthusiastically ordered a dozen bottles of tassie chardonnay. Nothing particularly wrong with it, but it tasted like a $15 white blend and not like the $30 bottle of chardonnay that the marketing described.

I did return it and VMF were great to deal with just as advertised.

Arriving today is a 6 pack of the Tyrell's 2008 Pokolbin Hills single vineyard semillion. Very hard to find any reviews of this online, so still a little unknown, but at least the producer, region and variety are a known quantity. Looking forward to sampling!

And I think the BLACK MARKET DEAL Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 at $10.0 is the Woody Nook Gallagher's Choice Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2005.

How sure are you?

I think it is the Eagle Vale Estate Whispering Lake Single Vineyard Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

I stand corrected. I think you are actually correct on this one.

Did you buy it? The point is pure conjecture unless someone buys it to "check" what it is :p

Quick and the dead...

geeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzz .. ya gotta be quick. :-(

Skimmed through this mornings deals early and thought .. yeah .. might have some of them.. Grampians Riesling...

A few hours later when I had a minute... sold out .. sheeeeesh

Here's my thoughts on the 2011 Churchview Estate Zinfandel St Johns Limited Release Margaret River which arrived the other day

88 points

Nose of red berries with a hint of cedar wood and earthiness. Not a massive nose though but enough on offer.

Mouth is interesting. Palate is medium weight and quite well rounded, yet still has a hint of syrupiness to it (but not in a bad way). Bright fruit flavours, heaps of acid and a hint of spicy vanilla (American oak perhaps?). Very little alcohol heat which is impressive given the 16%! Medium to long finish.

Will be interesting to see how this progresses over the years.

For the $14 per bottle I landed up paying, I'm not unhappy.

Beats me but I'm gonna have to put the emails in the junk folder for a while, my credit card can't cope....
