Vinomofo Wine Deals

Does anyone know the mof_ secret deal from iconic producer McLaren Vale Shiraz $40 $18

Almost certainly Pertaringa Over The Top by Geoff Hardy.
Pertaringa Over the Top Shiraz 2014 - Wines by Geoff Hardy

Vital statistics match, plus the review mentions "Made by an industry legend with 160 years of winemaking knowledge running through his veins", which matches the history of the original Hardy's brand.

I'd be interested to hear people's thoughts on this one as I've never tried it either.

Yes it is, click through the TN on the site to see the attribution. CM - Published on 02 Sep 2015

Is this a subscriber-only review? There's nothing that Google can find about 95 pts CM for the 2012 Redman Shiraz. There is a gold at the RMWC notes though.

Um, because CM didn't give it 95 points? :)

Wine Companion - 92 points - note by CM (rather than JH), Sep 2015
Wine Front - 92 points, CM, July 2015

Both the Wine Front and the Halliday Wine Companion are subscriber-only sites, though wineries etc. can pay to publish the tasting notes/scores etc.

The logo says 95pts at the Royal Melbourne Wine show. The cab sav has 95 points, but not the shiraz...

The grapes were mechanically harvested, crushed and destemmed in the vineyard, a technique developed by Redman decades ago; open-fermented, with 33% run off to new French hogsheads for completion of fermentation, the remainder to oak at the conclusion of fermentation. An elegant, medium-bodied cabernet shat shows Coonawarra in its best light.

Hi - the 2015 RMWS is where the 95 & gold come from. Interestingly, in 2014 the same wine scored as unrated ie less than 85 points. Can 1 year make that much difference?

Placing any trust in wine show scores, unless they are consistent across several well-reputed shows, is not recommended.

In the NWS (supposedly the best of the best), Bin 389 2005 went from Top Gold to no medal in successive years.

Cult producer of riesling with a 5 year cellar life? Faint praise indeed. A riesling that can't go 5 years in the cellar shouldn't be going into the cellar at all.

Re: mof_ SECRET DEAL Riesling 2013

Hewitson Miss Harry ?

I'd say so. Been on before. 92 pts TWF but only 87 HH (this style often seems to score low on HH/BC). Anyone tried it?

One of my staff purchased a case - she didn't really rate it and while she didn't return it (and gave me a bottle I haven't tried yet) she wouldn't get it again.

As a benchmark for her mof_ preferences, she really likes the various vintages of the Maverick GSM (and the Cab blend) and also enjoyed the Hazelgrove GSM

Tried one bottle after someone recommended it on this forum - For me it was a drinkable wine but a bit too peppery - For my other half who likes very fruity wines she did not like it at all.

Yes purchased a case a couple of weeks ago. Only 2 bottles left. A good quaffer for the price.
Would buy again.
