Vinomofo Wine Deals

Thanks beefarmer for your incredibly informative post. I committed to my 6 last night (needed one more case of something to qualify for free shipping) and your post has me looking forward to giving this a whirl.

Interestingly the 2013 Jack Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is up as the Contraband Cabernet Sauvignon, Coonawarra, $25 > $9.90.

Less points and less awards than the Shiraz, but considering how much i loved the shiraz i'll definitely pick up a case.

Has anyone bought the Bayliss Rd Black Label Shiraz 2015 - mine arrived today and the first bottle suggests send it back quick - Hoping it was a bad bottle but worried the 2nd won't be any better - interested in other's view on it

I wasn't impressed with the 2014 Bayliss Road Black Label Shiraz. It required some good aeration to become drinkable, and drinkable isn't what cuts the mustard these days :)

I caught a bottle in a VM mix pack, and wasn't impressed either. Seemed pretty phenolic to me with really no interesting flavour whatsoever. Would not order again. The caveat to this is that I was incredibly hungover the day that this bottle got cracked open - so my taste for wine was likely severely reduced.

I like your train of thought, however with all the bottles that have been delivered to me I can objectively deduce what is a quaffer, hence drinkable and what is a more serious product, with more defining character, complexity and that certain 'wow' factor.

Saying that, I do get myself into trouble by purchasing more of a 'wow' wine hoping it will taste the same next time. Doesn't always work but the integrity of the wine should still stay. Just happened with my West Oz pinot, a non Fo pickup. Good wine, but didn't quite get that 'amazing, best pinot I've had for ages' feel. Setting, mood, food affect all this. And of course, the ever changing characteristics of pinot with the troughs. In my opinion in these days of Stelvin closures, the second bottle of the initial dud will generally have you looking for the Kleenex and the return to sender Fo email address. This addresses The Directors query. The wine-muller above had me getting my tasting notes out for a Bayliss review. The shiraz has been whipped, however, last July I had a Bayliss Black label GSM 2013 which was magnificent. No other Bayliss since.

The second bottle letdown would not be an unfamiliar experience but good wines come back. Or maybe it's the good drinker that comes back and the wine was always the same? Hmm, that even has me thinking.

Those words "with really no interesting flavour" really sum up the wine I tried .

Thanks to all who responded to my question.

My first thought when I tasted it was: "liquid berry jam!", and that's after 2 hours' airing. Am sending it back.

This Jack Cab does sound quite interesting and looking at the 2014 limestone results, for everything, it damn well performed incredibly. I like the sound of it, and look forward to a review.

You talk reviews, reviewers and scores. A JH 91 would scare many.

I find it interesting that the Fo gave it a medium body whilst the website says full. This again is a very big point of difference. I think the shiraz was painted the same way, and it is definitely full. So with this Cab and all the regalia it has accumulated, I would be very confident in it.

Didn't JH give the Shiraz 89? That's pretty scary.

I agree with Beefarmer I am in. Boom. JH scores are only one persons view with a grain of salt and I prefer CM, GW and HH, and most important recommendations from all felllow AFF members.

Rug, a posting at 2.34am when you should have been catching zees like I was. I am guessing you were on the chai latte last night not the chilled lambrusco

Apologies I did not realise it was so late too many espresso's and some Elmer t Lee bourbon.

That was my point. JH gave it an 89 yet it is enjoyed by so many people :)
