Vinomofo Wine Deals

Cheers W&D - was only a sixer so will wear it and move on, buyer beware and all that- would expect @ $17.50, something drinkable and vetted as such, last couple of FO purchase's have been poor so won't spending any more of 17s hard earned $$s there

Sorry didn't realise it was only a sixer, I think you're absolutely right that $17.50 should net you a decent wine especially when VM's marketing asserts that it's a $40 or $50 bottle at RRP. I've certainly had my share of both magic moments and bitter disappointment with the 'FO, I came to them a bit late in their meteoric rise but apparently they were peddling far more genuine bargains and "think outside the square" wines in their early days....

Has anyone tried the Haselgrove 2015 Cul-Stor Shiraz/Cabernet/Cabernet Franc?

I boomed and have tried 1. While the dark fruits are there and are tasty it's just a bit flat. That is, there's no length or depth to the flavour and it's not as full-bodied as expected. Velvety yes, flavoursome yes, deep crimson colour yes but nothing more and not overtly spicy which is expected for a blend.

Wondering if others have tried and have thoughts on how this might cellar? As the balance is there and the palette is satisfied with the initial burst of flavour, I am wondering how this might be after a few years (have only just caught the wine bug so not familiar at all with looking for cellaring potential)? Thankful for any advice for what to look for.

Edit: bought this from VM, wonder if this post is suited here or in the recent wines you have tried thread?

Welcome on board decs, your post would sit well in either thread but this dedicated VM thread is better for teasing out other member's opinions and here's a case in point! I bought a dozen of the Cul Stor last year and ended up sending them back having tried one (possibly two) from the pack. Your tasting notes are bang on if I remember correctly, 'underwhelming' was my general impression and your comments regarding its lack of length and flatness I can only echo, I would like to be generous and say that there may be some case-to-case unevenness as some members gave it a resounding thumbs-up but probably it is a combination of VM hype versus reality (it doesn't take long to discount pretty much all their tasting notes btw).

Hi to clarify: Full refund returning10 or 11/12, 5/6. Otherwise pro rata on part-cases.

Ahhh vindicated, SD thank you!

Hi decs see posts 11471 by Whining &dining and 11472 by Redbigot. Cheers

Based on the reference to previous vintages, my guess would be the Gapstead Limited Release - VM sold the previous one ($36 CD) for $11. Not an exact match, but I can't remember any other recent Heathcote shiraz at that price point.

Not great reviews on that one, BTW, it may have been a Made for mof_s thing:

Vinomofo being a little misleading again. VIM is the Heathcote Estate Shiraz and I'm pretty sure Winefront (CM) gave it 93pts, not 95! Then under rewards it has Winefront 94pts *shakes head*

I have boomed on the VIM offer. I love that Heathcote Estate Shiraz and have happily paid $40 in bottleshops before. Fingers crossed it is Heathcote estate

Ahh thanks so much, I didn't even consider searching the thread! Didn't cross my mind it might have previously been sold. Thanks and I'll remember to search next time.

Thanks for the welcome, WD :). I went back and read your post upthread - we definitely felt the same about the first bottle. Redbigot shared similar pessimism to cellaring potential. I think I'm happier to return and try another red from 'Fo.

On tasting notes, I generally spend time uncovering the identity of VM deals. To date have taken note of review scores like Vivino, however now that I'm developing more understanding of the flavours/structure of wine I like I seem to equally use the winery's tasting notes with reviews. Didn't take long to see VM blurbs and tasting notes as 'loose' truth.

One wine I do highly recommend was a previous VM purchase: Penley Estate Rosebury Coonawarra Shiraz 2014 ($15/b).

Yeah I boomed also. Don't usually see it under $30 and at that price it is a good buy....let alone $22.

looking forward to your thoughts on it tgh

exec summary : A very good quality commercial red wine.

Cost me $29 and it's fine for that, might buy another 6 if it appears again.

( I define a vg commercial wine as safe , perhaps a tad bland , but with a good structure and a pleasant drink.
It's under cork, has a really nice deep colour, ok nose and is very approachable.
Personally , I like my cabs a bit dry dusty and austere.. this wine ticks none of these boxes )

disclaimer.. as an exec these days I would make a great street sweeper…. :-)

Awatere River 2016 Sav Blanc indicates a 95pts from Bob Campbell....but I am pretty sure he have it 4 stars. Can anyone confirm?

Edit. It states 2016 in title. Photo indicates 2016. Under Nerd info it has 2015.....and Bob did give the 2015 5 stars. Vinomofo are all over the show!!

I've tried a few VM imports and can't say any have been impressive. Has anyone made any import purchases they would recommend?

Import taxes are so high here you can't find anything of value. Better to invest in a holiday and enjoy them there. I personally bathe in Spanish and Portugese wines while eating cured meats whenever I can!
