Vinomofo Wine Deals

Had dinner with a couple on Sat nt - they heard from some friends (not us) about a site called Vinomofo which was running a promotion and giving away a bottle of Grange to some lucky buyers - guess what? In their first purchase of a mixed order of whatever from Vinomofo they received a bottle of Grange!!!

The return policy is very good, it's more the nuisance value of making a return and either getting a refund (can be something of a wait) or a store credit which can be instant once notified of collection. I've made a return on quite a few wines over the years with VM but the frustrating thing is when you get a store credit and replace mediocre with mediocre....

Unfortunately just went through something like this with Cellar One. Was surprised and disappointed at how much effort I had to put in for a fairly modest purchase where the mistake was wholly theirs. Delays in picking up and had to chase them to reward store credit.

Also concerned about how they handle their wine now, since they were happy for me to leave it out in 0 degrees for days for collection. Not a good look at all for a "friends and family" site.

Sales slow at Vinomofo?
I find that I just can't trust them anymore. There is so much hyperbole with each bottle. I'd much rather "this is a good quaffer for a Tuesday night. Halliday has done high usual over-rating and we would give it a 88. We think good value for $12."

Regardless, any thoughts on:
Cabernet Merlot 2010 – Black Market Deal #31583

It's from Umamu. I haven't had that one, but have been happy with the 3 other reds of theirs I bought recently - a mature Margaret River cab merlot at that price is great value as long as it's good, and I'd expect this one to be good but not amazing.

So true.. who remembers how they originally started?

Not sure I was at the very start, but I think I was an early adopter. Had some amazing wines for great prices. I think this was when they were mostly still dealing in distressed shipments.
I noticed a significant change in Vinomofo style when Blue Sky Venture Capital put $25m in - and we all know how that ended :(

They actually sent out a survey at some earlier point in time asking for the punters point of view on how they do business and my chief gripe was exactly the same thoughts that have been echoed here, they need to drop the excessively flowery descriptions of their products and give us some honest appraisals - there's too much hipster jive.....

Possibly, Last $25 voucher I received went begging for lack of interest

They had $10 voucher on Friday (secret cellar peeps I think). With free delivery, made Amelia a cheap date so bit the bullet. She's been good to me over the years.

Also bought the Umamu Cab Merlot so might have an opinion on that soon.

And yeah the early days were good with quality wine as cheap as $6 or $7 a bottle.

The desperation for sales continues.

I left a case in my cart yesterday and within an hour got the following message. Didn't do anything and got the same message again today.

'The 2nd rule of Vinomofo: never leave a wine behind.

Hey Dr Ralph,

Just wanted to let you know - you have great taste in wine... but many other mof_s do too, so there's a lot of competition for me (the delicious wine you almost bought).

So hurry back to the 'fo and we can finally be together, or give the Vinomofo team a call on 1300 VINOMOFO ( 1300 846 666 ) and they’ll sort it for you. Make our dreams a reality.'

Wine of fortune email received: supposedly a random code with an amount between $10 and $100 taken off your bill in the next 24 hours. Not surprisingly my code was for $10. Wont be using. Happy to PM the code to anyone should they want it.
