Virgin America Loft 'Enhancement' - Now charging for food and drink

So after doing some research for my up coming trip I came across this thread over on flyer talk which talks about a new 'enhancement' of the LOFT lounge. As of sometime Aug 2015 they are now charging for food and alcohol. My last visit was in July 2015, while the food offering was pretty poor food and drink were both free.

I think this is ridiculous, at least they reduced the price and unlimited free entry to elevate gold now, when before they only had 4 passes a year. Without paying anything extra all you get is a better chance at a seat compared to outside in the god awful T3.

At least now I have warning and I'm not going to be in any hurry to get to the lounge, with a 6 hour stop over I might do a quick LA day trip instead.

And they don't have showers so whats the point when you can fly Delta and get lounge, shower and snacks for free.

Yeah I think I might. However where I am going virgin were the only ones who do a direct flight also at a significantly cheaper rate. I guess you get what you pay for right?

Personally, I really, really like the VX product and Im happy to fly them if Im not going to be spending hours during a layover at the airport. We flew VX SEA>SF and SF>LAX last year but for our SYD>LAX>SEA, I booked Delta because of lounge and shower after our long haul.

If I got to the loft and saw the price list, pretty sure I would encourage hubby to go try some other horrible American food outlet that's on his to do list for the fun of it.

this is disappointing. I booked VX because they had better connections than delta, and I thought I would have a half decent lounge to stop in on the way.

but stuff paying $10 for an average beer!

I was in the loft last weekend for a number of hours, and although I didnt buy any food the beers are actually free.....Ended up ticking over on a rather strong IPA called Prohibition...
