Very peeved off ( i'm holding back what i really think ) this has happened , as I specifically booked the A330 this Sat for a A330 "taster" trip. Just contemplating whether to go at all now.

This was my trip plan on Friday too - used points to upgrade to J.. Was very looking forward to it. Also was the second time I've tried, the first I missed the connection due to fog in Canberra, and now this attempt is a plane change. Will probably just fly ahead direct CBR-MEL on Friday (hopefully they have catering loaded). Sad face. It was advertised as an A330, but really not worth my time pushing anything as what's going to happen - nothing. Will just try them to Perth later in the year. Lucky I love flying lol.

Recently did SYD-PER and return on the A330 (both in J). The outbound was on the newer seats, and the return was on the older ex-EK seats.

There's a big difference in experience, IMHO.

If you're going SYD-MEL, i.e., a 1-hour 'taster' flight, I wouldn't bother if it's an ex-EK aircraft. It may give a bad impression and do the newer A330 aircrafts an injustice.

Which is why the A330's should be exactly the same in terms of fit-out

Consistency is key!

I honestly don't believe the ex-EK planes are that much worse than the new A330's.

I value service, performance and food/wine higher than the hard product.

The seats in the ex-EK birds are acceptable, the only major gripe is with the looping IFE... hopefully they upgrade those to RED.

While yes, but one has to consider that if you are going to make product improvements, then consistency falls away a bit. DJ could have maintained consistency by making their new aircraft like the old aircraft, but they chose to improve the product instead. It's a problem that most airlines has to one degree or another.
