Hi all,

Quick question around VA's alcohol policy...On my recent flights between Perth to Geraldton there was no alcohol available to purchase on my am flight. Does anyone know what time they start to sell beer/wine/spirits on board?

I've had a look on their website and their policy is extremely confusing for non capital city flights. Is the policy the same for all VA and VARA non capital city flights?

VA do have a specific policy for WA :

Western Australia Flights

Guests travelling on flights operating within Western Australia receive a complimentary snack and selected non-alcoholic beverage. A limited selection of snacks and beverages may also be purchased, subject to availability.

I believe they limit alcohol availability and its possible its not loaded on any flights.

Thanks guys! The weird thing was that there was a bar menu in the seat pocket.

I've also done a couple of BME-PER hops recently and have been able to buy a beer or two. Maybe its not available until after 12 like PER-SYD/MEL?

That would be because the aircraft are used throughout the network (not just WA).

The airlines had agreed iirc to limit alcohol availability on WA routes due to issues in the past with (subsections of) the FIFO workers.

That's strange - I bought a premix pomegranate coughtail on a PER-EPR flight a couple of months ago which was definitely alcoholic (a Friday evening 5.30ish flight). Not available on the morning flight on the way back though. Maybe it's only post-midday, as (Mike) mentioned.

If you travel on a VAA mainline service (E190 or B737 not with a VA2*** or VA9*** flight number) alcohol is available for purchase on the Intra WA services and is loaded on all flights (will not be promoted on morning flights though).

For VARA can't help you but I do know they have different alcohol at different prices available on some flights.

I was surprised on a recent flight from BNE to SYD that I could only purchase one drink at a time. I'd just raced from the international terminal to catch my connecting flight, and had been travelling all afternoon back from POM, so I was looking forward to kicking back with a movie on my iPad and 2 G&T's. FA let me pay for two but could only give me one at a time. Seemed a hassle for them as I had to get them to come back with my second one later .....

Good old RSA, we are paying for the antics of drinkers who cannot behave in the past, there are still some places that know how to serve a spirit on the rocks, such as this result when I said I needed a scotch at the VS Clubhouse in HK, no mixer!

You are not wrong, flew MEL-BKK (zoo class) a while back on Jetstar, and after one beer ($5) I asked for another as the trolley was going past and got told, each beer must be 2 or more hours apart... the return leg was flying up the front and I had 7 (SEVEN!) drinks before we took off, each and every one was offered to me by the fantastic crew. At times my arm was twisted.... and that's not counting the drinks we had in the lounge in BKK!!
