Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

ADL-BNE last night would have to rank close to the best VA Dom flight I’ve ever had. PB strictly enforced, wonderful FA’s and amazing food.
Hats off to Matt and Mikalla who were awesome.
Wife had the Chicken and Tabouli salad which she devoured in record time and commented on the great taste.

I chose the Beef curry, the beef melted in your mouth and had the right mix of spice and flavour. Very generous portions of beef too I might add, I’ve paid good money recently at Indian restaurants for inferior meals to what VA served. Accompanied with a warm soy and linseed roll, cheese and crackers and a wonderful chocolate/cherry brownie.

To top off the service there was only 5 passengers in J and 1 didn’t eat so Matt offered a second meal to anyone interested. I was full but the two people behind us enjoyed it and the gentleman behind me who was a chef commented on how good the curry was and ordered seconds!
Some bubbly on departure but then had the Sauvignon Blanc with the meal and Matt never let the glass get below half full. My wife commented on how good it tasted and later as we were disembarking Matt presented her with an unopened bottle that was left over.
Little things like that really appeal to me and even though they are not always perfect I choose VA for Dom flights.

That beef sure looks tender... almost like a massaman style.

Would definitely of had seconds haha.

Was 4 generous pieces of beef that fell apart. Also had the right ratio of sauce to soak up in the rice as there is nothing worse than a dry curry dish.
I couldn’t honestly fit another mouthful in otherwise I would have asked for seconds

Looks great, and wonderful service.

What's in the brown tub next to the glasses?

Meals from my recent SYD-AKL return flight.

VA147 to Auckland on Friday evening - Service started with a drink and choice of nuts/olives/chips, they were happy to serve all three but I just went with the nuts. Dinner was BBQ spiced lamb shepherd's pie, served with cheese, quince and crackers, warm bread roll and a passionfruit mousse. I believe the other option was a salad, only three guests in J and none of them took it. Meal was one of the best I have had on VA, probably second only to the moussaka I had on a SYD-PER flight last year. Service was a little more subdued given the evening flight, FAs brought around drink top ups frequently and offered snacks throughout the flight, towards the end of the flight we were also offered fruit and finger sandwiches which I declined.

VA142 back home to Sydney on Monday afternoon - Choice of a salmon salad or Singapore Noodles with chicken and prawns. Seven guests in J and I was the last one to be asked and they had run out of salmon, however the FA said he could make the salad with chicken instead of salmon instead. Didn't bother me as I'm not a salmon fan and was going for the Singapore Noodles anyway! Served with bread, a chocolate cake and cheese, quince and crackers. Meal was substantial and quite good, however I wasn't feeling too well on this day and probably couldn't enjoy it as much as I would have liked. Towards the end of the flight a basket of savoury and sweet snacks was brought around and I got some melting moments. Service on the flight was excellent, cabin supervisor Patrick was very friendly and kept the drinks flowing throughout the flight.

All in all two very enjoyable flights, admittedly a bit of a VA fanboy but would definitely look to fly with them again the next time I'm heading across the Tasman!

Mel-Lst Monday 1305 departure. Probably one of the best J class meals I've had-ever! Butter Chicken that melted in your mouth. Much better than what was served on the previous Hkg-Mel flight. It even included a cheese course on a 52 minute flight! Hot sourdough bread was also served (not shown).
