Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

Couple of meals over the past few weeks

Carrot Cake Bircher - CBR-BNE
Mushroom Bruschetta - BNE-MEL
Corn Fritters - ADL-BNE

Really loved the heirloom tomatoes with the corn fritters.

Just wish they could warm the pastries - would be so much more enjoyable.
I don't do many breakfast flights, so haven't had the Carrot Cake Bircher yet - it sounds good....is it??

Breakfast ADL MEL this morning was a choice between Croak (sic) Monsieur or 'Kwess-er-dill-er' which was meant to be quesadilla I think. Poor crew having to pronounce those and then explain them to almost every pax. The Croque Monsieur looked awful, a pile of melted cheese with a sandwich hiding underneath, and the quesadilla was tasteless. Still, better than nothing!

Syd-Mel this morning

Choice (both hot) were:
Spinach and cheese quiche
Bruschetta with mushrooms and feta

I asked what's been the most popular with guests and the cabin manager said the quiche.

It came with beans and a cinnamon pastry which was quite tasty.

It was tasty but gave me a lot of gas. 💨. It could have been the cough coffee they served.

Melbourne lounge has the Thai green Curry with basmati rice.

The wait staff serving me said Jayne likes to make this at home!

VA891 MEL-SYD supper service.

Options were:
Chicken parmigiana with sweet potato mash and broccolini
Or
Cheese tortellini

I got the chicken parmi but it was luke warm (bit like the supervisors service!) and too much cheese made it gluggy.

Correct response is "que"

Sure it's not the beans? ;) As I read in a kids' book once: Beans, beans, they're good for your heart. The more you eat, the more you ...

😂 I'm good with beans. It was either the rich cheese or the coffee which tasted like drain water.
Kudos to the cabin manager Phil who was one of the most charismatic I've ever had.

Is this a new swizzle stick?
Looks interesting. However, personally, for me, in the back of mind there is this thought that what if a small splinter dislodged itself and landed in the drink/food, someone accidentally consumes it and it injures the mouth or gum or throat ... I know, I know, I'm overthinking this, but anytime I see a wooden spoon/fork/spork my mind goes into the spiral - black & white movie reel, with the splinter pricking the throat and there is blood everywhere! sorry for the gory scene! I mean it hurts when I get a splinter in my finger, let alone eat it accidentally ... gosh!! the only reason why I think it is always better to use metal/re-usable plastic items ...

My parmi experience was that it was too hot, however that was solved by cutting it up and giving it a good blow before consuming. 😎
the coffee which tasted like drain water.
Coffee in the lounge, bubbles in the air. 😎

The parmi is really good! As good as any pub or gastro pub. Not sure about the sweet potato mash. Not exactly light on calories :(

The VA lounge food is really good, and the food on board isn’t bad. So not hard to overeat. Cf my flight last week on Qantas… didn’t eat in the lounge but the food on board was not bad. ‘Kung Pao chicken’. Allegedly. It had the flavour, sort of, but bears no resemblance to the actual dish serviced in china or any restaurant. Still tasty.

I was on 867 MEL-SYD on Tuesday and offered the same two choices also accompanied by fairly lukewarm service.

I find it a slightly odd pair of choices because they’re a tiny bit same same in flavour profile. I had the tortellini which was served scalding hot and tasted pretty good.

The business class cabin managers name started with E (I won't name and shame). The business class rope divider had more personality than she did.

VA268 CBR-MEL. 1F

PDB - bubbles or water or orange juice. I went with the bubbles.

Meal order taken - 1D, 1F, 2F, 2D. Other seats didn’t take a meal I guess.

Vego option was cauliflower and barley salad. It’s a cold dish.

Meat option was Pastrami sandwich.

Wines - a merlot and a Pinot noir. FA didn’t say the names.

I had the vego option with sparking water. Nice dish. No seasoning whatsoever, so used the salt and pepper packs for the very first time. Put away the cheese and crackers and the ♥️ chocolate for a later use.

VA237 MEL-ADL, seat 2C

Excellent crew. Leigh and CM Brendan we’re super friendly and took great care in their service.

The inflight safety briefing system didn’t work so the crew had to do a manual safety brief.

PDB was bubbles or still water. Chose bubbles.

Wines - red - Shiraz, Cab Sav, Pinot Noir and merlot. The CM didn’t have the names handy, so simply referred to with the grape variety rather than the vineyard.

Same for whites - Pinot Grigio, Chardy.

Meals
Vego option was cheese tortellini with tomato cream and cashew pesto.
Meat option was the chicken schnitzel with sweet potato mash.

While Service CM Brendan told everyone that the serving dish is very very hot and to be careful when handling the food.

Took the vego option, it was not bad, but was not cooked properly/fully. Some of the tortellini were still stuck together as they are when frozen and had a very doughy texture. Probably a heating issue, I’d say.

The meal came with 4 cherry tomatoes - which when broken into gave the sauce component that was needed to scoop up the pasta.

Frequent top up on drinks offered. Later I noticed that the Cab Sav was Katnook Estate (Founders Edition?). Was very good red.

Overall good experience barring some uncooked/undercooked tortellini here and there.

Cheese, crackers and the ❤️ chocolate saved for later.

I'm missing the Thai Chook Curry.....

Always....you never know when you'll need them.
I was looking forward to the Thai Green curry vego edition … is there a pattern to the menus? I’m back ADL-MEL-CBR on Tuesday this week …
