Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

haha im with you strtrek!! i smashed down 6 mixers between ADL-SYD and after three plus hours in the lounge I needed the rope :P

I need to book another J flight clearly, they seem to have really lifted their game - looks like we are finally seeing the level of quality seen on transcon flights across the network.

The panty looks like a real winner, looks really good how they provide a menu.

Jury is still well and truly out on this.

Agreed maninblack, the pantry would be a big plus if it were being offered consistantly across the network. I sometimes wonder if the crew don't even know about things. Though it is more likely they aren't interested in the effort of offering extras.
Main tray meals do appear to have been refreshed, though they could do some work with crew around presentation, but I will also reserve judgement about other enhancements for now.

If they pick up the two main areas as I see them, then I would agree they have stepped well above QF.

On the pantry or picking up the game?

I've found that Virgin's A330 Business service is blowing Qantas out of the water in every regard. I never ever thought i'd say that either. I was an Ansett person before being forced to Qantas, and didn't actually think i'd prefer Virgin over Qantas, but even in economy, i've found them to be better now.

The vast majority of VA traffic is in narrow body aircraft not A330's. I rarely travel to Perth so cannot comment on that.

Valid point. I will bite my tongue a little more (as you say, it's only a small percentage of the overall Business cabin seats available).

I avoid 737's where ever possible as I like being able to wander the cabin without worrying about trolleys blocking the aisles:)

the indication though is that VA are mounting a strong challenge with regular evidence of their product improvements whilst QF continues to decline further.

that awful QF fish and rice meal a couple of pages back was a Y meal...and a bad one at that!

J Menu from VA468 yesterday. Quality and quantity was excellent. QF should take real notice as my first VA J 332 flight was far better than any J flight I have had on QF in recent times. Both priority boarding and baggage worked well also.

Combined menu idea is interesting (given most people do a return) - the menus used to be different east v west. Still think there should be more than just soup on overnight ( for those in a different time zone or who can't sleep)

They can manage it even on small sectors like BNE-NTL in the E190, just depends on the crew.

Agree..They also manage it on the BNE > TSV E190, which by the way went missing before the VA371 bne>tsv yesterday (replaced by a B737). Anyone know why?
The only E190 flight that was wanting was the Bne>Cbr which can be put down to running late. Everyone was kinda running on only 3 cylinders.

regards

ooops: didn't mean to hijack the post

VA1416 Cairns > Sydney B738 (VH-YIF)

Lunch was served and was offered Atlantic Salmon or a vegetarian dish, as I don't eat seafood I opted for the vegetarian option.

After the lunch was out of the way, suddenly some pringles, kit-kats and another serving of coke was beside me :P

SYD-CNS VA1429 last Friday night. This is probably the salmon that Grimace1 is referring to.

It was a bit dry, and a little bit small compared to other meals they've been serving up lately.

It seems lately that the meat in the salad is optional thus making it the vegetarian option.
