Flying back on VA1 as gold... got the voucher for me and my guest and now enjoying a steak and bottle of wine on Virgin.

You can use the voucher at IIIForks Restaurant, Lucky Fish or Drink.LA.

Better food than in the lounge!

You also get 10k VFF points as well!

To go off primal topic, but in keeping with the posts so far:

If VA was *my* airline, I wouldn't be joining an alliance either. You get almost no control over whom joins and exits, which means you could be stuck with bad partners or lose good ones without any say in the matter. Picking and choosing individual partners to suit geographic and/or strategic needs sounds like the most sensible idea to me absolutely.

Sure, they haven't executed it perfectly, but the idea is highly valid IMO.

Sadly, I doubt VA PAX are going to find the Skyclubs at T2/T3 from May anything to write home about.

The only advantage of using the DL Sky Club is that the showers will be so much better than the ones in the *A lounge at TBIT. The water pressure was literally non-existent! The showers at the DL Sky Club in T5 are fantastic!

Did you receive vouchers at check in? Were they offered or by request?

That is very true. Any other positives we can look to?

I'm still digesting this, but my initial reaction is relief. I'm a self funded traveler who has fought for the last 6 years to maintain SG. Travel is primarily to the USA to visit a grandchild. The extra luggage is welcome, as is priority check in, however, the main reason I've maintained status is the *A lounge in TBIT. I've generally got a 4 to 5 hour layover before returning to Aus, nice place to hang and a last minute shower before boarding is bliss.

i was "wait and see" what the lounge would be like with the terminal move, but if the Skyclub is anything like T5 that's not worth getting excited over.

I think after this years trip it might feel kind of liberating to branch out and try something different rather than chase status. Heck, I can pay for an airport hotel room for the departure night, use it for the afternoon and evening, pay for any extra luggage, be financially better off and not go insane booking routes to maximise status credits. This is the only place I'd ever admit to flying BNE/SYD/LAX for extra status credits.

Or.....do I do just enough to maintain and fly long haul on NZ???? Obviously not as cured as I thought when I started typing....

The water pressure was literally non-existent!

Seems rather odd. Why would a lounge be so new and not have any water pressure?

I visited the KAL Lounge in LAX TBIT. I think that one has been around for a while, but the showers were just fine.

I know California may be currently or persistently has water supply problems and/or rationing, but that just seems real odd.

Am I the only one who's relatively optimistic about the new DL lounge at LAX? I've personally found the food offerings in *A declining and those in the DL lounges getting better , and neither are really "meal worthy" compared to outside offerings(and as discussed, I rather enjoy heading to In-N-Out for a stretch and a bit of plane spotting if I have a spare hour and would prefer getting my meal that way). The outside deck at DL JFK is quite nice, as is the one in ATL, and they seem to be promising one at LAX. They've lifted their shower game as well. In fact, most of their "flagship" lounges are pretty nice - well beyond compare of any of the other US domestics. As someone who's not really much of a drinker, I generally am pretty happy with their offerings there, but have to admit just wish they'd put some self-serve options up.

DL seem to be upping their game in the lounge department. I love the *A lounge when it's quiet and there's space, and I tend to romanticise it based on these experiences, but the last few times it's been packed and it doesn't do well with a lot of people. But I don't get the doom and gloom about the impending DL lounge on this and other threads.

I'm optimistic, and I guess I'll find out next Christmas

I think they'll put a lot of effort into the new lounge for the terminal Reno, hoping they have (as someone previously said) a separate area for international vs domestic.

I tend to agree. Just to add a few more positive notes. My experience has been very pleasant in the Sky Clubs and their offerings have been getting better. I had some free Avion Margaritas once due to a promotion they were having. Have you tried the Mac and Cheese? Pretty good as Mac and Cheeses go IMHO. The Malin + Goetz products for the showers are much better than what you get to clean up with at the *A Lounge. Also let's not forget that the terminal move will make DL > VA transits much easier! Just my humble opinion but everyone will see change differently.

Or check out the meet me in the lounge threads, we can guest one person into the EY lounge on the 23rd March

Thank you, exactly a month too early. I was considering NZ this year anyway, so will probably do that and looks like I'd still have access.

Odd it may be, but it was the case when I went through LAX last year as well. So little water pressure that pressure is entirely the wrong word!

You hit it on the head. I was trying to be diplomatic.
As for the DL lounges, I am looking forward to trying it at LAX in the future. I love their lounges in SEA, SFO and SAN. It also sounds like their JFK one is pretty good too.
