Virgin Australia has Just Dropped a sale! Business class SYD-MEL for $309!

VA has generally had an advance purchase requirement for their cheapest fares. If I was still flying VA weekly I’d be snapping up these $309 fares though… even lower than they were in least year’s sale IIRC.

PER is a tricky one… the meal is the same as MEL-SYD, but you’re paying $$$ more for the remaining hours of the flight… which could be spent without IFE or WIFI :( SCs yes, but seriously, what’s the point with VA?
I'm pretty sure QF offers a similar meal on their transcons no?

The price reflects the offering. Remember there is QF and JQ to fly if you're not happy with VA.

I see you're starting to be unhappy with VA. Maybe try flying QF group to reset the expectations?
IKR! I stopped flying VA mid 2024 because of the level of service :( However I had some travel bank due to expire plus some FF points, so have a couple of VA flights coming up for Jan/Feb. I made the switch to Rex and Qantas (now just QF)

Similar in that it has a hot course 🤣 (otherwise the QF version feels much more substantial).

Look the meal and service transcon on VA is ok.i think I managed my expectations quite well on the route. Like most things, it depends on the crew and cabin lead. They do tend to do a second run with snacks and chocolate on the flights that I have been on going to Perth. Drink service and on request for me has actually been quite good. However I have also had some positive experiences on QF most recently and even on the 737 service. I would really like VA to offer on these services blankets and pillows and my personal gripe, the divider. . QF do provide blankets and pillows certainly on the A330 flights that are slowly dwindling I feel. I will be mostly price driven for biz between Perth and Sydney and also most likely, to Melbourne also.

I flew SYD-ADL recently on QF and the hot J meal was some warmed sausage roll bites. Not indifferent to the “Patties” once’s I’d reheated in the oven the evening before after a few too many drinks with friends.

Both airlines offer a pretty ordinary business service. That’s consistent worldwide. Don’t like it? Fly economy.

There was the period where both VA and QF were serving meat pies and sausage rolls in J at one point.
True!

For reference, here was the picture of the dip…

I understand the dip or starter has now gone completely, replaced by a bread roll?

Qf is has a more substantial salad offering.

I haven't flown QF Domestic J for a long time so cannot compare, but this was the dinner for ADL-SYD J in November 2024. I declined alcohol due to drinking way too much the night before:

The dinner tasted OK IMO. I only flew J due to successful UpgradeMe bid.

Pricing difference between QF and VA in/out of Perth can vary as much as VA being over $1,000.

To be honest, I don't think any meal is worth $1,000.

(Factor in snacking in the lounge before and maybe after it all becomes irreverent. In the end with status you're better off using the lounge and flying economy.)

End of the day people pay the airfare price and receive the service associated to it and that airline.

(A lot of corporate travelers wouldn't even pay for Qantas. I knew a CFO who would demand to fly business in QF for work though on personal holiday's would fly on economy reward bookings only.)

I agree! I was just providing the evidence to an earlier post where i flippantly mentioned a ‘squirt of dip and a carrot stick’.

If I was flying transcon and had was considering business class pricing, I’d prolly go QF + comfort seat over VA J.
