Hi guys
Has anyone heard any rumours about VA re-opening their Cairns lounge? Surely they can’t fly their newest route with their newest planes and no lounge access? We are travelling this route in December but I guess given the lead times for lounges and no announcements thus far it is unlikely their will be lounge access?

Unlikely there would be lounge access in CNS by December, or the lounge being reopened for that matter.

VA currently doesn't offer lounge access for J customers on their own short-haul international route network at the moment, and if I recall it was reported by other posters that the J base fares were adjusted to reflect the no included lounge access on their short-haul international services.

Also note that the VA lounge was in the domestic terminal, so would only be of benefit for those umpires connecting to other ports out of CNS from the HND flight. The Reef Lounge in the international terminal is still closed.

Cairns domestic lounge is the one in the near term to reopen to provide lounge for customers coming in Cairns from Japan with connecting flights.

If Jetstar pricing is cheaper than Virgin I am flying Jetstar as I can drink in the Cairns Qantas lounge then just read or listen to music on the flight out of Cairns.

The removal of this definitely makes this route with VA far less attractive.
I can't see it happening, but we can all dream ;)

Until float, I can't imagine there being any major changes to their lounge proposition.

It's a bit of a hike from the VA lounge to any gate to be fair.
I didn't find it too bad, it's not as though CNS airport is very big. You can walk much further from the lounge to boarding in MEL or SYD for some flights.

Certainly feels that way to me :)

Only thing I didn’t like was the showers, if your above 6ft and 90kg was a tight fit.

Has anyone seen the plans for CNS airport upgrade that is underway, perhaps that might be a new space they'll be looking at?

On going through Cairns on Saturday at least VA had priority check in, but after that Nada although the priority boarding worked well. Even a fast track security would have been useful as it was quite busy but in fairness moved quite well. Still disappointing though to see a QF lounge up the stairs and lotsa space for others but alas nothing from VA. So again, on next flight to CNS if QF are comparable I'll maybe use them but aware the service on QF can be very hit and miss. Incidentally the VA service though between CNS and MEL was excellent and cabin in biz well operated by Murray. A credit to the airline.

It would be awesome if they re-opened. I think Cairns deserves it. It's a great city and area and the airport and airline from a pax perspective, would benefit from the VA lounge being operative again.

Perhaps there’s a way that it can be reopened with a simplified offering rather than replicating the offerings elsewhere. QF have a regional lounge model which does this.

Previous Cairns Virgin Lounge currently a Boardroom. Would be nice if they reopened
the lounge.

Hope so, there was some sort of fit out truck backed up to the domestic departures entraces closest to security last Tuesday evening. Who knows what it was there for though.

Was everything inside removed or was it left ‘as is’

Certainly was the one lounge I enjoyed the shower facilities at considering the outside conditions! Especially at the end of a long day.

Not referring to the new user pays international lounge which is opening soon?
