Virgin Australia lounge in Cairns

They really should re-open their lounge in CNS. There are a reasonable number of flights in and out of there and it can also be used for their HND flights. A Lounge would definitely sway me away from JQ but, without it, what I end up choosing will come down to price.

It's empty, everything was removed

EDIT: Sorry - a few tables survived:

Those that survived are bolted.
Would destroy the terrazzo if they yanked those out.
Tho this does give another operator the opt to take the lounge space over if owner (if VA or not) wants rent.
Anyone with the skills and $ should be able to make it work, if approved.
Wont be cheap.
Maybe Plaza Premium... yep, dream on eh?

Owner of that space would be Cairns Airport. VA was paying rent to CNS when they ran that space.

Can someone ask VA at Cairns when next passing through if lounge is returning? 😜😄

Really keeping fingers and toes crossed that this lounge reopens . We seem to get delayed here more than other airports 🫤

Doubt they would know. They are Swissport from memory. Not really any connection between the ground staff and lounge ops aside some communications. Both operate under different contractors.

Have a bit of a peek in the lounge area let us know if anyone notices anything or ‘movements’

It’s dead space for Cairns Airport, would be wise to throw a good deal at Virgin to re lease. I assume that’s why Virgin has been holding back, waiting to a better offer.

I'm flying MEL-ZQN in J in a couple of weeks time. No lounge access (courtesy of VA).

I'm not sure what kind of airline VA wants to be, but this approach will surely turn off prospective J flyers. It's not exactly cheap at approx $1,500. Can't provide a lounge, don't fly Intl J. Simple as that.

Thankfully, in my case, I have Amex and PP so not really a problem, but VA, get your act together.

It is disappointing. I like cairns and i like it's airport. It does need that lounge to make VA a good choice for biz.

I just don't understand the thinking behind not providing lounge access for business class or high status passengers when flying internationally, especially on their longest route (CNS-HND) using a narrowbody aircraft! In what universe is that acceptable? I will never choose to fly VA internationally and they won't even be a consideration if there is no lounge access provided.

For $164 you have to stress about a transit in Sydney.

Regardless I think a better comparison is looking at VA/QF in June/July when both are operating non stop. QF is $48-49 more than VA which is interesting.
