Virgin Australia Middle Seat Lottery

Even better if you happen to be WP and are going to be sitting in EconX with the family anyway. Prizes are pretty niche for a number of the weeks, though, unless you happen to be a raving AFL fan.

I just this afternoon swapped our EconomyX seat assignments for a trip with my kids for precisely this purpose.

A promo that did get the attention of the MSM, but also at the same time a passenger promo (Win a free X, or Buy 1 Get X) that you'll typically find at the 'Value Alliance' carriers such as Scoot, Jeju and Cebu Pacific.

A totally worthless promo, couldn't think of anything worse

Works for me - as I was involuntarily forced into a middle seat today. Why not give some pax the chance - however slim - of winning a cruise, extra points, international flights, Plat status - when they are just sitting where they were going to be anyway? Why is that worthless??

Can't think of anything worse? How about sitting in a Qantas middle seat, without even a hope of a win. 🤣

QF has the "we may have to change your seat due to operational, safety and security reasons...".
Not sure what that means, but maybe if there are kids travelling alone, they would kick you out of the seat you want, to the middle seat, you don't want, because they have had some bad press about kids travelling alone, sitting next to strangers.
Or maybe they are worried about people taking photos while flying overhead of things like what we have outside ASP, ala the domes in the desert that the US has its listening ears out there...

I'm not sure but I may have travelled in middle seat once or twice. I really cannot remember.

I am one of those people that doesn't care what the fine print says.

I have a very simple rule. If you want to move me out of my allocated (chosen or paid) seat you will move me to a similar seat or better. I'll accept an aisle seat further back but no middle seat anywhere in economy.

I'll also happily accept upgrades to Premium economy aisle seat and any business class/first class seats.

Can they "forcibly" move you off the flight though, if its "oversold" ala what happens in the US.
Or do Aust domestic air (flight) carriers have to ask you first.
Not considering if the flight is cancelled, just "that you find that your seat is no longer yours", and you get put onto another flight,

Yeah, they absolutely can and there's no requirement to offer compensation here, unlike in the US or EU.
