Virgin Australia missing a European partner?

I've been thinking this for a while. VA currently have a gap within Europe.

I am looking at going to Zurich at the end of the year, but until the SQ partnership comes into play, the closes I can get on a Virgin partner airline is Geneva.

Getting around Europe is a similar problem. There is a gap. I'll most likely end up using BA and relying on my OneWorld Status.

It would be nice if VA partnered up with BMI.

Speaking of SQ and Europe, does anyone know whether we'll be able to earn Velocity points on all SQ flights, or just those DJ codeshare flights within Asia that were the main focus of the announcement? I seem to recall JB mentioning there would be no overlap with EY, which might suggest the agreement will not extend to European flights. Have the full details of the agreement been posted somewhere?

600 destinations are useless if they are not where you want to go Europe and China have some work:

Good to see Darwin getting the attention it deserves!

Am I missing something here? I always thought SG flew to Europe, but the map shows only Etihad as a Europe connection.

Singapore isn't approved yet, and i heard something that some EY codeshare flights wont be overdone by SQ.

Not an approved partner yet.

Singapore is listed on the diagram (look at the legend), but I am pretty sure it only shows routes that VA will code-share on. SQ was more about providing an Asian network than a Eurpoean network.

It would be a shame if they didn't use SG as a European network. It certainly works better than Etihad for PER dwellers. The latter would currently require an additional stop. Even if the start a service from PER, I'm like JohnK - I'd prefer to leave the Middle East out of my connections. I might never get out.:(

I think there are two layers of partnership here. VA will likely code share with SQ to Asia, India and destinations not served by themselves or etihad. You will be abe to buy these from the VA web site on a VA code. You will probably still be able to earn velocity points and have your status recognized if flying SQ to other ports they serve. That's essentially how the NZ partnership works now with the exception of the pacific islands where competition reasons mean they can't.

Well, it would be a nice touch if they left the SQ flight from Munich-Manchester as a Velocity earning/burning sector - it at least makes for 1 intra Europe possibility.;)

But would it allow booking on a single PNR, or would there be a series of unconnected individual legs? I'd like to thing that I could book a single RTW fare using, say, VA, SG, VS or DL and DJ.

Or they can just join Star Alliance
Now that would be interesting.

Are you saying that if there was a partnership, people would join BMI and credit their DJ travel to BMI as opposed to the other way around?
I would much rather credit to BMI as they have much better earn/burn rates but may not be around for too much longer in their current form.
