Re: Virgin Australia raises the bar yet again revealing its new Domestic Business Cla

It does appear that the VA model will make it rather difficult to interact with a partner.
Which is exactly what a VA FA was telling me on the flt back from LAX 2 days ago. But if you look at the ABT feature on the new seats I cannot see a middle pair pictured there or anywhere else for that matter.

Maybe VA will have a new star studded launch of the centre pair seats say in Iceland or somewhere - can you get further from Australia than that?

I think this is what you would be looking at:

As VA are marketing this a half way between business and first class seat, it makes sense that the seats are almost completely separated.

SQ don't seem to think so.

Re: Virgin Australia raises the bar yet again revealing its new Domestic Business Cla

There's a mockup of the cabin on the VFF Facebook page which shows little ' connection' between the middle seats.

For those that don't have / don't want Facebook; I sucked the images out.
Personally I think the cabin mockup looks spectacular and I would be very, very excited if it looks like that!

Looks like that 'blueish' panel may be a sliding shutter - perhaps enabling central PAX couples to eyeball each other?

Yes I would view it that way also - might book QFF F, SQ F and VA J and let Cruiserette decide! J/K - she better make a choice morrow morn

Re: Virgin Australia raises the bar yet again revealing its new Domestic Business Cla

VA's new seat is obviously a reverse herringbone layout, as opposed to QF's new seat which is a staggered forward facing layout.

Other than size, the main difference that I have experienced between airlines which use "Reverse Herringbone" for International First Class and those using it in Business Class, is that the bed footwell is a covered "cubby hole" in Business and an open "ottoman" (often capable of being used as a second seat for dining) when set up as First Class.

Regardless of the seat's manufacturer or specific brands nuances - the advantage that reverse herring bone seats provide at the hips and shoulders, in terms of lateral space, makes it an appealing design for many fliers, over staggered forward facing seats. This personal space also often translates well for "side sleepers", who want to curl up when in bed mode, as opposed to the "sardine in a tin can" sleeping position, provided by staggered forward facing (business) seats.

That was my thought as well except it doesn't look like a couple could have a comfortable conversation as the slider looks too far forward and would possibly require both parties to lean forward meaning only short conversations with the mrs.............the only thing that springs to mind looking at that is the adage, every cloud does have a silver lining! ;)

That would be perfect for a couple I know - no clues but their names begin with bc and TV - they would be able to SMS ea other or better still communicate via AFF entire flt!

Ah young love - it's a beautiful thing

You know I am kidding kids!

Personally I find these new J seats quite strange.

The seat itself when upright appears rather claustrophobic when it is surrounded by all the built ins and enclosed by the circular bulkhead behind the seat in front.

It is not clear whether the seat reclines, if it does the amount would be limited. Does it have a lift up leg rest?

When laid flat the set up reminds me of a tunnel berth in an undersized yacht.

As for communication with your travelling companion perhaps you could slip notes through the sliding panel.

I hope the FA checks all the hidey nooks for stuff left behind at the end of a flight.

I resemble that remark :mrgreen::cool:

In seat chat is a wonderful thing ;)

Re: New J seating coming to VA 2015???

Plenty of information out there - pretty hard to miss considering that it co-incided with the delivery of the latest A330.

Virgin Australia new domestic international business class seats Airbus A330 Boeing 777 - Australian Business Traveller

Thanks for the link. I didn't even know new 330's were coming, let alone these "Business First" seats. Nice!

I suspect, given some of the wording in that article, that there might be 3 tiers of domestic travel soon, Y, J and this so called 'J-1st' product. Getting bumped off one of these onto a 73H J seat wouldn't be likely to make anyone happy, so some product differentiation must surely be coming.

I have a feeling that the current 330's are being refurbed.
