Well, I heard you can use the lounge if you have membership/gold/plat. That’s better than Qantas.

Years ago staff weren't "allowed" to go into the lounge, even if accompanied by a revenue paying passenger. However, this has definitely been relaxed as you can see First Officers / Pilots in the lounge at times now.
I expect the perks will vary based on what as in the contract / bargaining at the time.
From my understanding there are three "employing" entities.

VAd (Virgin Australia Domestic)
VAi (Virgin Australia International) (Short Haul International)
VARA (Virgin Australia Regional Airlines) (Based in Perth, charter and WA "regional" and some "intrastate". Return to base nightly 99.99% of the time.)

Reminds me of this from a few years ago in the USA when a “non-rev” passenger was removed from a flight for violating the dress code.

I’m fortunate to get access to staff travel on a different airline, and there is a dress code. When checking in the other day, the agent asked me to step back from behind the counter so they could inspect my attire. I have no issues with this as it’s a privilege to have access to this kind of travel and the company has a right to set whatever rules it likes in return.

On staff travel, you have access to the lounge only if you are a member. You don't need to have airline status. But there is an annual fee to pay.

For pilots only, during the Paul Scurrah days, we were given access to the lounge during extended turnarounds to get watered, caffeinated, and fed before our next flight. The original agreement was that we weren't allowed to have identifying badges while we were in there (epaulettes, name badges, ID, etc.). This has since been relaxed, and we can now wear full uniform if desired. This extends to J class duty travel as well.

Anything that has offensive language or symbols.

A little while ago the policy was relaxed and staff are now able to wear the same as passengers. So basically anything that resembles footwear, and anything that looks like clothes is ok to be worn.

Drunk, nuisance, abusing staff if you don't get on the flight. Anything antisocial basically. Yes it happens.

Can you use staff travel to go to the states? would it be on United?
