Virgin Australia SYD-HKG for $685 return

Upper Class on VS is like a different airline and not forgetting that Virgin America in Y is a very different product to Virgin Atlantic in Y.
Y had broken and dirty seats, very poor seat pitch, a lot of broken IFE and/or controls that didn't work, probably the worst food ever eaten on a Y flight around the world! FA's were pleasant, however very scare throughout the flight (probably embaressed by what was on offer)

Sounds like you might have got one of the 'vintage' 747s - the A346s that ply HKG-SYD are much newer and typically do not fill up on the HKG-SYD leg so seat pitch shouldn't be an issue (I believe they have capacity controls on the number of seats they can sell).

Not that much difference in age between some of the A346s and 747s, their first is about to hit 11.

True but I believe some of their Gatwick 747s are still getting around in the oldest cabin fitouts...

It was 4 years so not sure of the aircraft. But you are spot on re the numbers in Y. Almost empty on the SYD to HKG leg, however at capacity on the HKG/SYD leg.

i'd love to snap that pricing up but i'm only seeing $1072
Need to find the right days.

I recently booked QF SYD-HKG-TPE return for ~$970 for travel in September school holidays peak and returning just after New Years.
