Have change fees been increased?

I swear the International (Pacific Blue) change fee was $50 or $60 a few days ago, but the fee is listed as $80 International here:

Saver | Virgin Australia

Domestic Change fee is now listed at $60 - Wasn't that $40 or $50 recently?

If so ... Very sneaky...

I'm not sure they went away. If you look on the Velocity site (under airline offers) they are still being promoted there til August 2011 - although there's no link on how to take the offer up!

Ah, that's why I couldn't find it, didn't look on the Velocity site! If it's still current, strange that there's nothing promoting it on the Virgin website itself though (or at least, not that I can find!) - although as others have mentioned, points can now be used for upgrades on Saver fares.

It appears they've used it as a chance to revise/increase a lot of fees! Another example: domestic blue zone seat fee appears to now be $40 for many segments (e.g. ADL-PER). To be fair, the website states the fee varies from $20-70 depending on origin and destination (although I can't seem to find the full list of prices on the website). I thought it used to be a flat $35.

Nope, it's a new increase.

In that link - Domestic (GO - $55, BlueSaver - $50)
- International (GO - $60, BlueSaver $55)

These have now increased again (with no notice that I'm aware of ... someone correct me if I'm wrong!)

$60 - Domestic.
$80 - International.

VERY SNEAKY. DJ hiding the bad behind the good.

(As I ponder asking Virgin Australia to honour the following change fees listed on their website: Change and Cancel Fee | Virgin Australia and/or forward to Fair Trading Queensland for them to investigate...
NB - to the DJ insiders, I already have a printed copy, so removing it ASAP won't help.)

The new Flexi fare has NO change fees for date or time! I have just purchased a Flexi fare at a price cheaper than the saver fare from HBA to SYD on 6 June. The math on the Flexi fare appears to be favourable when you ake into account baggage, zero change fees and other inclusions!

Velocity Redemptions have updated to the new fare classes also - redemptions in Premium appear to have decreased substantially over the previous sky-high PE rates, eg SYD-ADL 21,800+$17 in Premium
I think it might be time to blow all those points I have been hoarding - time for some more panda visits or maybe a trip to SFO (via LAX of course).

Long time lurker, first time poster!

Your post made me go through the terms and conditions and see what it says. This is what I found in a recent itinerary of mine:

Changes made via the website, mobile website or mobile phone application: A fee will apply if you change your fare on-line or via our mobile phone application. The applicable change fee will be the fee published on our website on the date you request the change. A higher fee will apply if your fare is for an international flight.

The information in the link that you have provided seems to be way too old (correct me if I'm wrong here). I'm pretty sure I paid a lot more to change my booking (not so long ago) when I compare it with the fees mentioned in your link. I spent the last 15 minutes trying to find the link using the website and I just can't seem to find it!!. An interesting thing about your link is that, the logo of virgin in the browser's tab is an old one, which to me suggests that your link is probably a cache from the old website.

I'm sure a company such as Virgin Australia would have crossed their 't's' and dotted their 'i's' before making such changes to their fees.

Yep, that is correct as to what is on itineraries. I wonder how legally enforceable that is though?? (and as indicated, I did find a lower fee published on their website)

Try searching for "Change Fee". It's the second link returned.

I'm sure they have. I just don't like sneaky changes. Fee increases should require warning of at least a week or two - not slipped into their website overnight.

And, with the search method above returning that "supposedly old" (I have no idea how old it is - I thought it was from Today ;) ) change fee list, they really need to sort out their content management on the website.

Anyway, I think the change is sneaky, not properly informed, and a very big downside to the excitement of the new changes.

As much as I agree, I don't.

It's not as if they've hidden the fee increases so you cant find them- they're right there on the website, properly flagged as they should be. I think its hardly reasonable to expect a company to 'advertise' (as such) any fee change, particularly when nobody else does. Even so, with a massive change to fare structuring like this I would think everyone would read the new Ts and Cs (the important bits of which are very short as is).

In regards to the actual fares, I'm really happy to see the flexi fare personally- seems like a very good value option!

Compare and contrast to the JQ *Class fare re-sturcture.:shock::shock:

Congrats VA.

Not only that, but it appears you've beaten our friendly neighbourhood AFF VA reps to the punch! ;)

Actually (using very smug voice) I think I can claim dibs on first awareness of this. I designed the whole 3-fare-type schema before JB even joined us (it was part of what was then known as "Airline of the Future", most of which is now being implemented under JB's leadership).

The concept was and is pretty simple - a family of discount no-frills fares to allow us to compete against Tiger and Jetstar for leisure travellers and a flexible all-inclusive fare family to allow us to compete against Qantas for economy class business travellers, plus the premium cabin. The need for this sort of structure became even more accute when Qantas and Jetstar started flying the same route and we were trying to compete against both with a single product.

Gratifying to see it is being generally well received. Having also been party to the Velocity renovation which will be rolled out soon I am very much looking forward to the reaction to that too [/end smug voice].

cheers

Realizing of course that if one particular subsection of one paragraph is not favourable, there will be 50 pages of vitriol about it!

Thanks for the update crazydave, you can claim the prize.

allow us to compete against Tiger and Jetstar

Are you sure you want to compete for Tiger's passengers? Have you ever seen how they act on an aircraft.
